right now,the winds here are gusting up to 60 MPH no rain yet,just dark clowds.Had a power surge but still have power.I hope it says that way!

My take on that is that people who have to be rescued from hurricanes, tornadoes, mountaintops, etc. due to their own foolhardiness should be billed for the service. People whose dilemmas come about through no fault of their own should certainly be able to count on emergency assistance. But those who don't obey evacuation orders, trail signs, and the like should pay, if you ask me.

I talked with friends in southwest Ft. Bend county and their utility shed came apart. They are getting some blasts of rain and wind gusts up to 55 mph. They said it is getting stronger by the hour.
A friend of mine who lives near I-45/Beltway 8 said it's rainly lightly with a few gusts to 45 or so.
Here (I-45/Rayford-Sawdust) we have no rain, but our power is going on and off quite frequently. But the power in this area is always unreliable. Even on a nice week with no weather at all we have 3 or 4 power failures. I suspect our power will go out long before the brunt of the storm gets here.
We finished up our laundry. Tidied up the house while we still have power. We are as ready as we are gonna be for this. I still think we are not going to get it that bad up here. But it IS expected to take most of tomorrow to clear our area. By 4pm tomorrow it should be gone.

The power company has said that some areas of southeast Texas may be without power for up to three weeks. Geesh. It's not so much to storm I worry about, it's the heat afterwards that's gonna be a pain.
Right now our Barometer is the lowest I have ever seen it. 29.45 inches of mercury!
On a side note a Lufthansa 747 came in at 3:00pm from Frankfurt and the crew unloaded, reloaded it and catered it in 90 minutes so it could take back off for Frankfurt. Now that is hustling some people!

I'm hearing reports of 80 mph winds just now. I will be experiencing anywhere from 35 to 60 mph winds and rain tomorrow during the day but should be out of here by evening and Ike will be in Arkansas by late tomorrow night!!
Allen tells me barometric pressure is now 29.3
Where my Dad lives in Houston, it's now Barometric pressure of 28.83

Right now it's 2:30am CST. We still have power but I can see the flashes of transformers blowing out in the distance.
We have pretty steady winds of 45 mph and gusts to 67 according to my anemometer. We can hear the gusts of wind.
One of our dogs went under the coffee table and growls if anyone comes near her. One of the other dogs can't figure out what's wrong with her. Earlier when it was calmer I tried to
get her to go outside for one last potty duty and she snapped at me when I tried to "encourage" her to go. I guess she's scared! And this is normally a very friendly dog!

A few months ago Costco was selling "survival ration" buckets. Something like 160 meals in a bucket. Lots of freeze dried things, from the look of the contents label. I was tempted but the problem is, what do you do with 160 meals when the stuff nears its expiration date? I guess one could donate it to a homeless shelter or food kitchen for the poor. But I tend to keep a supply of dry/canned goods in the pantry anyway, and slowly cycle these through the kitchen as needed. Not sure I want to stay in an area where there is no food available for more than a week or two, anyway.

The winds here are gusting up to 120mph.I had no power from around 9 PM thru 6 AM.I slept on and off. Both of my windows leaked.When I got up,I noticed the cealing is leaking between my living room and dining room.I don't know if the leak is from the ac duct or upstairs apartment.The water is high but not that bad yet.Some of he branches of the trees are down.I watched hunderds of transformers here spark as they went down.
Chuck, gld to know you're doin' ok. I just heard from Allen (Whirlcool)--they have lost power for the duration now. No damage whatsoever, their fence held well. He just told me their barometric pressure is 28.7 and winds are around 45 mph. Winds here are 30 with gusts to 45 mph, I can hear it outside. It's not raining here yet, but it is in Waco. The outter bands are approaching on the radar.
Just hear from Allen, some of his fence went down. His neighbor's fence had already bit the dust so to speak. So, now they have to walk the 7 dogs they're sheltering with leashes now. I can hear the wind picking up outside here too.
The sun came out about 65-90 minutes ago. I just got only drizzle and very light rain for maybe an hour at best. I didn't want the gully washer rains, but we sure need rain around here!! So Ike has left. Just like every other man in my life, they leave lol.
