OMG OMG OMG.....suprised we still have internet or power......

torrential downpours....MAJOR HAIL....very large stones, hitting so hard, I can't get out the door to take pics......

ground covered like a snow storm.......holy cow!!!.....

even the state police are stranded out on the roadway.....

I will attach pics soon.......

and this is just South Jersey......weather only mentioned like sprinkles thru out the day.....where did this all come from?...

stay tuned

Wow! Stay safe! At the risk of making myself sound reeeeeally ignorant... I didn't know Jersey had such weather! I've never been that far north though.

Martin, I think I saw the hail on the weather channel - it looked like snow! OMG, and the bad storms in other Eastern states - keep us posted. Sorry you guys were hit so hard. We can get nastiness here sometimes...but so far, no hail as you saw. Everything ok - status?

We had severe weather warnings here as well (here = all of Germany). The weather was actually nice for the last couple of days, which is why we had to have thunderstorms now.  Just read throuh some storm spotter reports mentioning two inch hail stones, funnel clouds and all. Can't have too much good weather in Germany, oh no.

Hail like that has happened here a few times over the years. The house sounds like a drum and you are in it with all the hail bouncing off of the roof. It does sound scary. And the ground does look like a snowstorm has just passed through.

Look on the ground around your house for any of that grit that used to be on the shingles (if you have a shingle roof). If there is you can file a hail damage claim with your homeowners insurance and get a new roof.

Logixx: Funnel clouds in Germany?! Wow!

I must say, Im very jealous of all of you that are getting rain right now or have gotten some lately. It hasn't rained here in well over a year! I grew up in the south so this desert nonsense is driving me crazy!

OK....I am back...were safe...bruised all the hell.....we were out running around gathering the animals as this came on us quicker than one thought, or even expected....we lost 2 chickens and a duck....2 geese were injured, but doing well now....it was unimaginable, the stones were getting bigger and hitting harder by the second.....I was knocked down and slipped several times.....

counting ourselves lucky, no major injuries....we're alive...and survived the storm.....

my new Jeep is battered to hell, I am in total upset over that alone.....but insurance has already been here, and will take care of all the damages to it....somewhat a relief...

two trucks owned by a neighbor have smashed in windshields and cabs....

we lost internet as the line was down crossed the roadway, the state police ordered them to cut it down......so that knocked us out until now...at least we had power....

and a few more from the storm, fog running in, and clearing out just as fast....

vehicles stuck on the ice covered roads.....even the state trooper slipped and fell...and cars sliding off the roadway.....so much damage all over.....the garden and fruit trees are wiped clean and demolished...all this work, shot to hell

at least no water damage into the homes....just counting our blessings...

@Louie, raindance...lol....I sure can stir up a storm, can't I?

Channel6 ActionNews has been here all morning.....and road crews all over....

Sorry to hear about your garden and fruit trees. Happened to me last year, I was very upset.

Glad to hear you are ok.
The last major hail storm we had was in 2009. Baseball sized hail stones are nothing to laugh at, they can do some major damage.

Shocking and very sorry for you all..glad you're ok

I've never ever seen a slew of hail like that - certainly not that heavy. Deeply sorry, Martin, for your animal losses. I love chickens and geese - it's just a shame they couldn't be saved somewhere, shelter, but it came so fast, I understand. Just incredible and a reminder that weather predication is still an imperfect science at best.
Hope you aren't injured from your falls - make sure, sometimes a day or so later, something will suddenly remind you ...

Thanks for the updates - but, wasn't expecting this!

Yes, we're used to that down here....
We didn't have considerable storms till now this year, but sure they will come, every year they does....
The difference is that this country is sort of third world, and you do not get any warning, and so you better learn to " read" the sky... Very few except elderly or those who have a passion for weather as I have are.
Tornadoes are common here also, and Gypsies future tellers at amuzement parks are way more reliable of the national weather service, Welcome to Italy!
Useful reminder: If sky turns green it means hail is assured, you spot a green sky during a storm you better take your car in garage, hoping that the storm will not bring else....
Here some pics of the hailstiorm of last year from an amatorial weather fan website

I am

sorry to learn of your damage from the storm Yogie ! Hail is horrible and so very destructive to an auto or anything in it's path really. Glad you are OK but sorry to hear of your pet loss. I am an animal of all kind lover. Hope you can come out of this OK. Especially that beautiful new Jeep. I can only imagine how angering it was for you. Best to you in the recovery and hope all comes out good.

Best, Jim

Wow, Martin, that is totally crazy!!!! We didn't have anything like that up here, just lots or rain and thunder and lightning. Glad you are mostly ok. I know how nerve racking a freak storm like that can be. How bad is the Jeep? Make sure the insurance covers absolutely every single dent and chip in the paint. I was caught in a hailstorm a few years ago and didn't realize how many tiny chips were in my windshield until it was to late to put in an insurance claim.

I am glad you were not hurt, but feel bad about the loss of the birds and the crops. I'm surprised that the birds did not sense the storm coming and take shelter, but maybe I am supposing too much in thinking that they would seek shelter unless it got really dark. I remember a really great eclipse we had in 1970. It got so dark that the street lights and lighted signs came on and the birds roosted then it passed and the lights went off and the birds came out again. When we had the tornado in 2001, all of the leaves were stripped from the trees and pulverized. Fall was about 8 weeks early. Do you still have leaves on the trees?

Today I was driving in Greenbelt when I came upon an 8 inch Eastern Painted Turtle crossing the road. I pulled over to the right, put on the flashers and got out. I waited for a car to pass me and the motion made the turtle pull its head in really fast, poor thing. I picked it up and put it on the other side of the road in the direction in which it was headed. As I got back in the car, I could see it scrambling through the Vinca minor headed only it knew where. I'm glad I was there to help it.

thanks everyone for your thoughts and concerns.....

once the rain starts, chickens run for cover, most into the barn....when it comes to geese and ducks, they love the water....and stayed, yet being hit with the stones, they didn't know which way to turn, and was impossible to get them gathered as usual in a line for the barn......so we were gathering them 2 and 3 at a time, running back and forth, getting stoned ourselves, the were getting bigger and harder with every minute....

plus add in the flooding and undertoe of gushing water.....only to view out and watch cars/trucks slide all over.....in a matter of minutes we went from a sunny afternoon, into darkness and almost a winter storm, really not knowing what was gonna happen next...

trees all around are just shredded.....this morning everything was cleared out, and all these hail stones vanished.....

I know their only animals, but I have a love foreach and every one, and was equall upset over finding them gone....despite all we saved...those three will bug me for a while.....

so far, the Jeep is fully covered by the insurance for all repairs, some parts like the hood and trim will be replaced, other areas knocked smooth and filled in.....they guarantee it will look like new when done.....my other concern is the neighbor next door, her new car was considered totalled.....I am not sure which is better....

just frazzled at all of this at the moment......yet, it could have been worse....counting ourselves lucky at this point...

hard to see all the damage to the Jeep, but its dinged and dented all over.....this morning, the ground cleared as if it didn't happen....and a few happy campers...

That's crazy! Sorry about the animals, but I hope the geese will be back to guard duty quickly :-)

#9 in the first set is really cool if you don't think about the damage it represents. #1 in the second is just freaky, like a sci-fi version of mutant frog's eegs.

I've never experienced hail anything like that. The weirdest I experienced was in May of '78. We'd all walked to school wearing t-shirts, shorts, and sneakers. It was sunny with temps already prob mid-70's at 7:30am. I was in my last class and this girl yells out, "It's snowing." Everyone laughed but it really was snowing! My friends and I walked home in a raging blizzard. It stopped shortly after I got home. We got about 3" but by dinner time the sun was out and temps had climbed back up to normal. The explanation I remember was an abnormally strong Cape snow squall penetrated much further NW than usual. Although very late in the year, that kind of thing wasn't so weird for Plymouth (Mass.), but I lived 20 miles NW of there and still got hit by it.

I hope the insurance company doesn't give you a hassle.

Jim

My Goodness!
I am glad you guys are safe! Incredible Pictures! It looks like it must of hailed for an hour?! I can't get over the amount of hail!
Sorry about your animals and your automobiles! That really sucks!
Make sure you get your roof checked! That type of hail is terrible on roof systems of any kind. I have had two roofs replaced in 8 years because of hail storms in Atlanta. And our hail storms paled in comparison to yours!
I can't get over you guys were running out in the hail! I understand though and I would have done the same thing for the animals!
Hopefully this is "your share" for this season!!!
Brent
