At two different sales, I ran across a 1952 Frigidaire range and a Westinghouse fridge - not sure of the year of the fridge, so I'm hoping someone can tell me. Looks late 40's to early 50's to me.

Both appliances work beautifully, but the Frigidaire's clock isn't working (a common problem, it seems). Is there someone out there that refurbishes these old appliance clocks/timers?

The range features the "Wonder Oven" which allows one to bake and broil at the same time. The element can be moved from the bottom of the oven to the middle and you can set two different tempuratures at once - one for the top half and one for the bottom half. Interesting feature - I'll have to try baking a cake and broiling some steaks at the same time and see what happens!

My guess is mid 40s for the fridge.

What an awesome day for you!

What do the trays/boxes in the fridge say? Looks very very clean! Must have been a beer fridge. hehe!

Wow Kevin, sho 'nuf purdy!!!  I don't think I've ever heard of the Wonder Oven.  You will have to bake a loaf of Wonder Breaad in that Wonder Oven!!!Was there a model higher that had double ovens instead of one cavity that was a warming oven?

Our family's 1949 Westy fridge looked identical except for interior compartment covers.  Instead of the unpainted metal on the freezer door and meat & vegetable drawers, ours had plastic facings in a blue and white scheme.

That's either a nicer trim package or a year older or newer.  The model numbers are easy to decipher.  Ours was model D9-49.  The last two digits will provide you with year of manufacture.  Check that and let us know!

The handle is supposed to have a lucite surround where you grip it.  They broke or cracked, and it's not easy to find an old Westy of this vintage that still has that part of the handle intact.  On ours, in later years the handle nearly yanked right out of its pivots and became sloppy.  Not the best design.

A very nice fridge that should serve you or someone else for many more years with proper placement and regular defrosting.  Just by seeing that fridge I can hear it running.  Or should I say, purring?  I knew that fridge from birth until it finally died out in my parents' garage during a serious heat wave back around 2005 or so.

Thanks for the info on the model number - I'll look so I can figure out the year of manufacture.

The lettering on the fridge doors/drawers says:

Westinghouse
Frozen Storage (on freezer door)

Meat Keeper (on top drawer under freezer)

Humiderator (on bottom drawer)

Westinghouse!

49 or 50, the one I grew up with was a 50, it had the freezer all the way across the top, some of them had the lucite around the handle but some of the cheaper ones did not, ive seen both, my hometown was FULL of Westinghouse Philco and Norge.

What did you do with the Imperial 70? The Wonder Oven was not meant for cake baking and broiling at the same time. It was for less exacting types of baking like baked potatoes and casseroles while broiling the main course or baking two different things at two different temps, but the double oven is a better way to do it.

A lot of the time, those clocks will come back to life with cleaning and lubrication of both the clock gears and the motor.
