Direct drive. Noticed this now during agitation instead of neutral drain. It was very apparent washing a very large load of towels yesterday. Hard to get the house replicated on video but I most definitely will try. Is it possible for the metal washer that sits above the clutch housing to rattle or move? That’s really the only thing I can think of that is causing the noise. It just sounds like a vibrating control panel but I assured everything is tight and nothing is loose.

Splash guard?

Are you referring to the splash guard? Could you be a little more specific as to which metal shield over the motor? It has that cardboard cover on the bottom but that isn’t metal.

Also FWIW, all my machines are thoroughly insulated with sound deadener inside the interior cabinet.

Splash guard

The one in this machine is an almond color and its secured in place, so I'm not sure why it would rattle. I'll check it out again though. Thank you.

Rattling, buzzing, direct, drive washer

Hi, there is only one metal shield over the motor as Glenn pointed out.

You should heavily insulate your machines first thing you do is insulate the inside of the cabinets then you also can put the complete sound shield under the machine that was used on the top of the line direct drive machines.

Frigidaire 1 to 18 washers were known for noise and Jason and I totally insulated one To where the machine is now, downright quiet, to insulate the cabinet on a direct drive. You should try to add about 30 pounds of material to the cabinet to really Muffle things also seal the seams between the top of the machine and the cabinet and you can also put insulation box on the back panel of the machine outside it.

Insulation

I’m all for that, believe me. I just want to know why some make weird noises and others don’t. I have an almost identical model to my 96 machine and it doesn’t do this. The metallic plate is inserted correctly. I triple checked it, so why does it vibrate during neutral drain?

This may not be your problem, but I have had some where the control panel vibrates at different points in the cycle. At some point in time, the panel was raised for some maintenance and the plastic nut the screw goes into was stripped to where it doesn't secure solid any more. I have replaced some of those plastic things and the noise has stopped.

Plastic nut

I replaced those plastic nuts in my 94 machine. I think the problem is the splash guard, as indicated above. I do appreciate your input though. Since I tinkered with the splash guard, its not as bad.
