strange problem with the aeg

My aeg lavamat 76850 just turned 3 last week but today while I was washing a 3/4 full load, something strange happened.
A thick towel got stuck between the door boot and the drum during an intermit spin. I do wonder why it got stuck there, because normally that never happens, not even with an overloaded drum.
Luckily I was around and shut it off but the door boot is twisted.
Fortunately the machine still works fine but it looks so odd.

verry odd, i would still get the seal changed as to avoid it grating against the drum

that's the strange thing is doesn't grate against the drum and the jet and drumlight still work fine but I will try to get it changed, I hope it doesn't cost too much because then I will leave it as it is

It looks as if the boot has moved on the front panel and become twisted. Anyway to twist it back what looks like anti-clockwise. Just a thought.

It looks like the boot got twisted to me too - it looks like the inner part of the boot rotated counter-clockwise. Is it safe to assume the machine was spinning counter-clockwise when this happened?

Can you slide the inner edge (closest to the drum) of the boot clockwise to line it back up?

what the hell??? what was it like on the spin cycles and does it make any funny noises or anything? looks really wierd lol

It just moved. Remove it and put it back. it will turn like new.

I agree with above comment

If you remove the top of the washer you should find a worm drive on a large band of metal that goes around the seal against the drum, The outer edge looks fine as that would have been pressed by the door. Just loosen the worm drive screw or if its a plastic ring you may have to remove it, Straighten the door seal and replace the ring/clip should be as good as new again.

agreed: Austin and italmex.

No need to buy a new seal. Just open the top of the machine and reset the boot in its original position, then retighten that large wire clamp and you are done.

Reason why: Some (very few) units have had problems during AEG's shift to the Poland productions lines (AEG being broke having been bought up by Electrolux, consequentely the manufacturing lines were disassembled and reinstalled there).

You may want to paste some vaseline along the metal collar or the plastic collar (depending on the year of manufacture) of the drum's outer tub before reinstalling the rubber boot and tightening the metal clamp wire. Just reposition and retighten. Finished.

While it was a sad day here in Nürnberg with all these hundreds of workers gone and released, I am still glad that the Pollish works will continue the same product design and will keep on carrying the same spare parts (now SOME of the transfer guys must have been keeping thinking, mustn't he? May God bless him).
