I have been using Suavitel in the blue bottle. What a great fabric softener! It reminds me of the old Final Touch. Its also less expensive than Downy. I highly recommend the dryer sheets as well....

Bigs ups for Suavitel from me, too. I'm into the Yellow Bottle version. After years of using Downy, I'm a recent convert to Suavitel, courtesy of Venus, who sent me a couple of bottles a few months back.

It is a big, big scent, though. Not for the faint-of-heart.

I Like that brand as well....over the summer I tried their baby scented one....washed white sheets and towels with Ivory Snow & Clorox, used that softener and hung them on the line .... they smelled incredible

Suavitel

Another great fabric softener in my book besides Downy and Ensueño. Before the wash-in, I definitely overstocked on FS so I have enough to last me a lifetime! I haven't tried the blue Suavitel yet, but I think I will. Glad you're enjoying it, Eugene!

At the Convention, someone brought some yellow Morning Sun Suavitel (which I use) and everyone was commenting on the strong scent it had. Steve Bisso smelled it and yelled, "OOOOH THAT'S LOUD!" One of the more hilarious events of that evening...

I'm impressed with the baby and the dark colors formulas.

My only complaint is that I see a curd-like residue in the sink after the machine has finished.

The old vanilla formula was nice too....in small doses.

i use suavitel and when i get to mexican stores, i get ensueno....both in lavender color....they have great scents...i also like april fresh downy....

Sinfully scented Suavitel!

Thanks Eugene!! Glad you like that loud, yellow Suavitel!

Suavitel is big down here. They have more flavours than Baskin-Robbins! I am also seeing many versions of Mexican Snuggle fabric softener. Unfortunately, when I used the lavender-scented one, I broke out in a rash in the most awful places! ;-) Just a reminder to check for skin-sensitivity first!

As far as the baby powder-scented fabric softener...after having two children and changing diapers, that smell is a turn-off and a reminder of, let's just say, more unpleasant things. ;-)

I was in Target yesterday taking sniff "hits" off of bottles of fabric softener and all I have to say is PEW to all of them. There had lots of types of Suavitel, Downy, Gain and All and I don't understand why they have to make fabric softener with such strong overpowering fragrances these days. I sooooo miss the days of 1970's Downy with a nice light non-overpowering fragrance. I used to find vintage Downy all the time at the estate sales, but it seems to be getting harder and harder to find now, so I've been buying the fragrance-free white Downy.

If you like something more "understated", Final Touch isn't bad (although it pales in comparison to the original version...)

Sigh.

Suavitel is quite loud and I think the blue bottle is best. The green and the pink ones are quite funky, yellow is too sweet to my nose. But contrary to Downy's marketing claims, a little Suavitel goes a long way. It is quite thick and concentrated. It is also inclined to stick to fabric softener dispensers and leave residue if the water flushing the dispenser isn't strong or warm enough, or the spin for the centrifugal dispenser on an agitator isn't fast enough. You definitely should dilute Suavitel with warm water when filling the dispenser.

I almost preferred Ensueno, but I haven't tried it in a long time. I know they have different scents now, but the original blue was really nice when diluted properly.

Anyone see the 1-2-3 Mexican softener made by Henkel? I wonder if it is the same as German Vernel and other softeners. (DO avoid 1-2-3 detergent, as it is more an all-purpose cleaner and very high sudsing.)

Mexican Downy is also quite different in texture and scent. I know that one floral version of Mex Downy is the same as the Fresh Linen "bluing" Downey we have.

Mexican Snuggle is a rather new development. They were selling the classic non-ultra Snuggle, but they have apparently changed the formula and packaging slightly to appeal to Hispanic customers.

former Downy user here

I loved the Mountain Spring flavor!

Problem was using it with the dispenser on my former Amana really gooped up the inside of the agitator column.
I'm not about to put that stuff in my Maytag, NO WAY!!

Today I use a store brand from Jewel/Osco, pink colored. Nice light scent. I am guessing its close to the "nice & fluffy" cheap stuff they sell. My mom has used it for years.
I like it because the scent is not overpowering. My clothes smell more like the Tide powder I use than the softner.
I have totally abandoned using dryer sheets altogether.

Suavitel

I use it here on the heavy soil linen , It helps hide the nasty odor in the Morgue and Mortican work. Which is the worse we have to deal with, It also helps work glide thru the flatwork ironer better and a nice fresh odor comes off the ironer. These are the two depts I hate doing the most!

I may actually try that, the next time I am in ShopRite.

I have used the Pathmark knockoff of the Downy non-concentrated softener, in the blue bottle, and got good results with that.

I guess, ideally, I'd like to see a "Marseille soap" (or even "Ivory soap"!) fragranced softener instead of these concept fragrances that they're putting out....

Unilever owns Calvin Klein, and I think it would be clever of them to introduce an "Eternity For Men" fabric rinse (don't laugh, look at the popularity of "Axe" out of nowhere....

On occasion we use the Sauvitel Baby Powder Fresh scent at 1/2 strength. It's nice, with a relaxing feeling to it. Perfect for the bedsheets. We never have used dryer sheets, as we have always heard that these are bad for the dryer.
My sister uses Downy, both in the washer and in the dryer with the fabric sheets. She said she loves the way it smells. But then again, this is the sister who uses an entire cup of Persil to wash one load of laundry!

Oxydol fan

`Savon de Maresille' powder (I'm not sure about FS) is available in France and I think it's a Persil (Unilever) variant. I'd be happy to look out for some for you when I go to France in December and mail you a box if you'd like....

Regards

WOW, thanks, that would be great (I'll obviously send you the money beforehand!!)

Really, I'm grateful.

I haven't been across the pond the last few years myself, and due to very necessary restrictions, I can't hassle anyone else into "smuggling" anything back when they go :(

I'm insane for foreign products-especially the Unilever and Henkel stuff (just finished the last Greek "Skip" last Wednesday).

It's scary when I think how much fiscal damage I can do to myself when confronted with the offerings of a typical French or Italian discount store!

Seriously, thanks again....:)

Oh, wow, I'll probably go for that, too.....

I don't know what they've done chemically to Ivory Snow...it's as if they removed all the soap out of it!

Than again, I'm still looking for Wisk tablets, lol!
