I everyone, I want to make Plum Pudding for Christmas and now is the time to make it. I am having an awful time trying to find suet now for some reason. I need two cups of it and can't find it anywhere. I am headed to Peoria tomorrow and will look there, but to no avail here.
Are any of you having the same problem? I was just wondering. Happy baking, Gary

Why don't you ask the meat dept. in your local grocery store for some. Isn't it just beef fat trimmings that have been chopped or ground up? I'll bet they could accomodate your request.

Gary, check the frozen meats section of a larger grocery store.  It's not easy to spot, but you may find bags of shredded frozen suet, which is just right for a good old-fashioned plum pudding.   Happy baking!

My parents used to get suet free at Jewel. And yes, it's the same stuff that you feed birds (that why they got it).

Suet

Thanks to all for your helping comments. I went to Peoria and to Pottstown meats and he ground it up and gave it to me for free. He told me that there isn't much of a need for this anymore and that I was the first person in a long time to want some.
This receipt isn't the most healthful thing to eat, but then neither is cream, butter, lard, Crisco etc. lol I am going to make plum pudding this weekend. Bye for now, Gary

Gary, I'm glad your butcher was able to sell you to suet you needed. I was pretty sure that they would be able to help you. BTW, eating animal fats in moderation won't hurt you. I fact the current thought seem to support that animal and saturated fats are better for us than margarine and trans fats. So enjoy your holiday Plum Pudding.
