Alas, I am finished school for the summer. I can now devote my time to my hobby. Collecting!

I recently picked up a new toy, a Beaumark Whisper Wash portable dishwasher.

Beaumark is the in house brand for The Bay (the previous brand was Baycrest), and most machines are made by GE/Camco. The washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, and I think fridges were all GE/Camco.

It is an almost bottom of the line machine. The BOL variant only had options for the dry portion of the cycle. This is one of what I would call GE's "Set it, and forget it" timer styles. It simply tells you to turn the timer to the "Start" position, and then the machine will start and work its way through. There is no rapid advance timer to take it to the correct portion of the cycle, so when you turn it to start, it starts there. Ill explain more in a bit.

Inside

The machine features the low end racks. You cannot fit a wine glass up top, the rack is simply too high. However, this allows for large cookie sheets, cutting boards, and tall items to be loaded on the bottom rack. The bottom rack has low sides. It features a metal spray arm and a Perma-Tuf tub too.

Leaky pump

I bought the machine from a student, and she mentioned the machine leaked a bit. So I had to replace the motor seal. At the same time (because, it all comes in a kit now), I replaced the impeller, marcerator and screen. You can see, that over the years this machine leaked, it took a bit of a toll on the motor casing. However, the motor still works fine.

Control Panel I

Here is a close up of the control panel. No symbols! Very un-traditional for a GE/Camco machine. Canadian GE machines, re-brands or not, always had symbols to combat the clutter from English/French Bilingual control panels. "Newer" Beaumark machines used English/French panels.

Pots and Pans, and Normal are the wash options, with a heated dry or air dry.

Timer

Here is the timer. You can see it only shows two functions, Start, and Rinse.

If you turn it to start on Normal, the wash sequence is (no joke) pre-wash, pre-wash, pre-wash, wash, quick rinse, rinse, rinse (dispensing rinse aid), dry.

If you select Pots and Pans, it extends the second pre-wash to about 15 minutes.

The last rinse is not super hot water either, only the second last rinse is done with heating on. There is no heating delay either. So you almost have to use heated dry always, other wise your dishes will come out wet. Unlike the Medallion I have, where the last rinse is heated, which causes the dishes to dissipate the water once the dishwasher goes into the dry cycle.

Rinse cycle does a rinse, final rinse, dry) sequence.

Here is a load...

...I did earlier today. A mixed load of Pots and Pans, and glasses.

The high upper rack allows more versatile useage of the wash tower "hump rack", and no! It does not cause things up top to be missed.

Peek during wash!

Even though the machine has the BOL racks, it can still take a lot of goodies. It also cleans VERY well. I have yet to find something so dirty, remain dirty after a wash in this machine.

Hope you enjoyed a bit of Canadian oddness!

Nice find :)

Do you still actively use the Medallion as your daily driver, or are you using something different these days?

I wish I could have something like a 1200, Medallion etc from G.E., but you'd never find them here, and besides, I'd have to disconnect the heater to be able to get any use from a transformer :)

Thanks guys!

I swap out the DW upstairs occasionally, the Medallion was in there for a while, and so was the Maytag. Now it is back to the poor performing Frigidaire two-pump model. I am looking for a reverse rack machine right now.

Good save Kevin!   So many of the machines of this era got tossed because of a leak - good for you that you replaced the motor seal!

It reminds me of the GE I had in my former house west of Montreal.   Is this still a porcelain tub model??

Hey Paul!

Thanks! I looked on Kijiji up in your area, there are a handful of these kinds of machines up there!

Yeah I hated that it had a leak, but the impeller kit was so cheap, all I had to do was return bottles to get the money for it.

Its a plastic tub model, with the filtering system in the back. I thought I wouldn't like the BOL lifestyle, but it is growing on me.

Poor Performing Frigidaire?

If it doesn't perform well, why not toss it out, and swap in one of your other machines - if my count is correct, you have 3 to choose from! Personally, I would take the Medallion (and would love to have one!), but the BOL GE seems nice enough, but you don't get a good cycle selection, so, maybe not...
