Andy:
Well... So we´re relatives! LOL.
You have Electrolux as your last name, and I have Electrolux DNA in my blood.
Steve.
Maybe you say that because our buildings are very different from the american.
I could see when I visited USA that most houses are made by wood, drywall, pre-manufactured parts, etc... just like a Lego toy.
It´s very cheap and very quick to build.
Your tall buildings are a huge metal structure, and then other materials.
It´s also cheaper and quicker.
Here in brazil most of our houses are built with ceramic bricks and concrete. We almost never use wood or drywall
Our buildings are almost the same. they are made floor by floor, tons of metal, concrete and bricks.
Only a few very tall buildings are built using the american metal structure to reduce the weight and make them taller.
Other difference we have is our weather. (again, the weather)
Here we don´t have dehumidifiers and we don´t have water heaters and hot water pipes.
No, that´s not because we´re old fashioned. It´s because It´s not necessary. our "cold" water sometimes can burn the skin.
instead of dehumidifiers, we use humidifiers because our weather is also too dry.
Off topic:
Sometimes I watch on the news those terrible destruction scenes caused by a tornado and I start wondering...
What if those houses were built using our techniques? Why build a concrete bunker inside or under the house if the whole house could be built as it?
probably the only damage would be some broken windows and the roof
Well, I´m an appliances designer, not and architect or engineer and I´ve never seen a tornado in real life, but I still believe our solid buildings would resist strong winds.
Somebody please answer that! I´m too curious.
