OK, well, I finally put some water in the coffee pot and ran a cycle. Surprisingly it worked! It got hot quickly, the water rose and bubbled like a cauldron, the thermostat snapped and after a few mins, the water went back down. I carefully rocked the top piece back and forth and surprise! It came loose! Well, at least I know it will work.

Now here's the issue. The rubber gasket is very hard and glazed. It's not crumbling. I took it apart and the little O ring inside did crumble. So here's the question, is there any way to revive the gasket by cleaning with alcohol (like you'd do the idlers in a record player)? Is it worth the time or should I try to find a new one? Where can I get a replacement O ring?

Thanks in advanc!

Jason,
Go to the drugstore and buy a couple Fleet brand enema. Soak the rubber gasket in solution for several days and it will soften. The ingredient that works on rubber is glycerine and the active ingredient in Fleet enema is glycerin. A Sunbeam collectors, not so well kept secret. You can buy glycerine in cake and candy making shops as well as drugstores, but the Fleet is a much cheaper source.
Good thing coffee is brown anyway.

And when someone says my coffee tastes like sh*t I'll know why.

Ummm... Ok. well, worth a shot. I'm sure I can get a replacement O ring at a hardware store.

A tiny bit of glycerin keeps baked goods moist. I'd rather buy a small bottle of glycerin, which I have, than have them wonder about the severity of the blockage that requires two. Oh, be sure to stay sorta bent over, keeping a forearm across your abdomen from the moment you enter the store and wince while asking people such as other shoppers or a clerk if you can find one, where the prepared enemas are stocked. While you're at it pronounce it emenas to sort of throw them at first. That would be like a Candid Camera stunt. If you are too young to know about Candid Camera, ask a parent, but it was basically filming people who were not aware that they were being filmed, like real life is today.

LOL

Might as well get a some Astroglide (aka snot in a bottle) while I'm there. No, I'll just tell them that I'm cleaning out my coffee pot with it. That would get an even stranger reaction than acting like I'm full of sh*t.

From researching the web, looks like Fleet Enemas have mineral oil in them. Are there different kinds, one made from glycerin, one from mineral oil?

"No, I'll just tell them that I'm cleaning out my coffee pot with it."

Two Fleet emenas to clean out your coffee pot?! What's stuck in there?

Does anyone remember chamber pots? My father's mother had one for the upstairs bedrooms. The bathroom downstairs was right off the kitchen, next to the refrigerator and in a direct line with the back door of the house. Louis XIV would have been comfortable using it without a door. The bathroom plumbing backed up to my grandparents' bedroom so I guess that they did not want the noises of bodily functions or flushing coming through the wall of their bedroom at night. I was told, after asking, to only use it for no. 1. Grandma said something like, "God no. The place smells bad enough already."

Well, I was just thinking that it might be fun at a nice dinner party when everyone is in the kitchen, maybe after eating, to ask a guest to get some implement out of the dishwasher, saying something like, "I hope I remembered to start that earlier," or "I think that load is clean," and when they open it, there is a chamber pot in the lower rack. Of course, you are not looking in that direction, but listening intently for the group's reaction. Bad, but not evil.

I think you could still get those at some hardware stores. Just like kitty litter cake, putting food in stuff that normally gets crapped in is not a good way to entertain guests.

Unfortunately our C30A gasket split in half, across the piece.
So I imagine that the only way to repair it is to buy another pot with a good gasket? The one we have is in beautiful condition and works properly. Once you start using one of these Sunbeam vacuum pots it's difficult going back to anything else!

Always rub some water over the gasket before inserting it in the lower bowl and twist the upper bowl to the side as you push down. The water not only lubes the gasket, but also give a bit of a buffer against the heated metal at the neck of the lower bowl. Do you mean that it ripped into two ragged rings?
