Hey guys, just picked this up on gumtree for 40 bucks it looks like it’s brand spanking new, it includes the recipe booklet and almost all the attachments apart from the all-purpose basket shown in the accessories section, I’m not exactly sure how to use the low heat insert (the large milk white bowl looking thing) let alone if it goes on setting 1 or setting 10 because I want to use a deep fryer and also a slow cooker as too that’s what it looks like the insert helps it become Let me know if you have any questions

Here’s how it looks when I did chicken in it

It came out nice and crunchy, a lot better than what I did for when I tried it in the oven

The only real downside is you have to clean the inside of it a specific way, I hand washed it in hot sudsy water, then afterwards the instructions said to rinse it with boiling hot water to remove any unseen oil particles that would carbonize upon next use

Hi Adam,

To use the slow cooker crock, You'd need to find a sweet spot between simmer and 1. A slow cooker should barely if ever have bubbles rising, so somewhere between simmer and 1 should be the right place, if 1 is 98deg C.

Otherwise when using it as a saucepan, 1-3 should be plenty for water based cooking. for Deep frying pick a temperature appropriate to your oil and the food.

Does the base unscrew with a center nut for cleaning? Make sure you keep the oil of the orange enamel, or it'll end up with black carbon build up over time.

Cheers

Nathan

Yes, it actually does unscrew for cleaning, but the element

Is bonded to the bottom of the outside metal bowl thing, I tried using it just a little bit earlier, but for some odd reason it seems to be tripping the breaker. This is after I’ve washed it all out and letting it dry for probably over 24 hours, I think that I might need to blow a hairdryer at it for a bit of a while to make sure it’s completely dry, that’s probably why, I was gonna use it for the slow cooker cock, but I had issues with the breaker so I’ve just checked whatever I was cooking in mine into mums

Here’s a photo of the Sunbeam trio

I’ve had that happen with old sunbeam stuff. If it was unused, the control should be ok, but there could be moisture in the sealed element. Sunbeam never imagined that these would last 50 plus years.

The only thing I can suggest, assuming it’s an earth leak rather than a direct short, is to find a circuit that isn’t earth leakage protected and heat it up for half an hour to hopefully drive any moisture out. If it still trips on a non protected circuit then the element or controller has failed.

If you have a newer sunbeam frypan controller in the house, it should fit to allow you to confirm whether it’d the control or element that has failed. Unless the temperature prove makes good contact however, don’t leave it on for long.

After letting it dry up until I made this post

After plugging it in and turning up the temperature dial, it seems to be working fine now I wonder, I’m not sure if Sunbeam would actually return a warranty card if I filled it out for that thing, but I am a bit curious to hear how they would respond considering the newer versions of these actually don’t have a slow cooker function

Also, speaking of slow cookers, I think my mum‘s Tiffany brand slow cooker is cactus, after using it for about five hours, even though it hasn’t been used in about three years, it looks like the element had overheated in a certain part
