Hmmm, it looks like it may be belt driven.
Like the old Hamilton Beach ones were.
My sister opted for the mixer head driven food processor kit. She likes that as the bowl you want the food in is already under the mixer, there is no need to transfer it to a second bowl.
Now darling daughter has an older model Kitchen Aid. Very hefty, and made in Greenville Ohio.
Your new one is designed by Kitchen Aid and made in Chine', as are the new hand mixers.

Ooh Jon! A new kitchen tool! Always great! I've seen them but haven't played with one. The reviews are a bit mixed, but ofcourse you have to try yourself. Just don't throw away the DLC7.

Louis you are absolutely right - the kitchen is chock full! I played with a friends dicer in a video on my you tube site several years back and was impresseed, but they were too pricey when they came out so I waited. They have really dropped in price and dicing is something I do a lot.
I won't toss the DLC-7 I will find a good home for it.
I think it's gear driven its louder than my other KA which is going to the cape. It has to be as you can adjust the slicing thickeness on the fly!
It will be fun t learn. A

I had one in the late 80's, more of a BOL though. I did have lots of fun with it.

from about 8 years ago, I have a case with several blade attachments in it as well as the whipping attachment and the mini chopper bowl and blade too.. Mine reads, "Made in France" on the bottom...I always wondered if Cuisinart made it for KA. I rarely use it because I don't have the counter space to keep it accessible. Likewise for my Hobart KA stand mixer....someday I'll have me a big kitchen!

Cuisinart's were never made in France, but Japan.
Moulinex, and Robot' Coupe' were French.

That is not mine form 1983. It has a smooth case on it with no air vents, and black buttons on the front for pulse/off, and on.

Did you get it "from Canada" ? Wondering because of the french on the box. KA sold in the states either is all in English or half Spanish whereas most appliances sold in Canada are half french on the box.
Louis's pic is true. That is the very first Cuisinart in the US about 1976. James Beard had seem a Robot Coupe in France and fell in love. He was instrumental in getting together a group of investors who with re-branding help named it the Cuisinart and introduced it to the US. I bought mine in July of 1976 at Frederick & Nelson department store in Seattle. I still use it. Sure I've bought a new knife and blades over they years and I also have a much larger one in a closet. The first 2 or 3 models in the US were also made by Robot Coupe. RC got tired of having to make a US version and Cuisinart was created as a new US company. At that point besides the FP, they made a great set of cookware with rosewood handles. I again still have mine.
Models featuring the pulse and on buttons on the front were unveiled in 1982-83. Until then you had to turn the lid from left to right to run the machine.
