Swedish Hacking?

I use Safari (Version 5.0) to trawl the internet and I have an i-Mac.

I check in on AW at least 7-8 times a day, generally between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and midnight. Haven't noticed a single problem. In fact I only checked out the 'Swedish Hacking' thread just to see what it could possibly be about. Otherwise I had no idea something weird was afoot.

Robert, I'm receiving bogus e-mails from your unimatic1140 yahoo account. I've stopped opening them, as they've all had nothing written on the subject line. I opened the first ones, which had nothing but a link to what I'm guessing is some retailer overseas. I've never followed the link for fear of getting infected with something malicious.

Eugene, yes I know, that actually is a completely different issue that has nothing to do with the Swedish hacking, it's timing is unfortunate though at nearly the same time as the ISP issue. A few weeks back I noticed that an email had gone out from my email address yet there are no emails like this in my Sent folder. Since it just happened once I ignored it. Now that it has happened again it appears to be a problem with yahoo mail accounts getting hacked and using the owners contact list to send out spam. I'm going to close that account so please add the address [email protected] to your blocked list. After doing some research I've found out that yahoo mail is notorious for this. So I'm not going to use them anymore.

So far everything has been just fine here (Comcast, Safari, Mac). Wouldn't have known anything if it wasn't for this thread. I've received the email Eugene talked about (only one copy, received yesterday).

For the people who are having problems, I wonder if you can sidestep the entire thing by listing a different DNS entirely. Google has a free service and how-to (see link below). If you go this route, write down all the settings you are about to change before you change anything for when you want to put them back the way they were. Good luck!

PS: Eugene, there are a few ways to clean up DNS caches on a Mac, most of them involve dealing with the command line and/or the Network settings in the System Preferences. In general, though, for most problems you might want to clean caches, it's easier and faster for most users to restart in safe mode (press shift when you are rebooting), wait for the computer to reboot (it will clean caches and test the file system), then restart normally.

Robert, since you say you're going to abandon the @yahoo addy, I'm sending the screen shots to webmaster@, is that OK? I'm on the dial-up now for access to the site, must switch back to cable to get the redirection captures, so won't see your reply here until after.

I've had no problem at all to date. I check into AW at least once daily, but often more than once. My ISP is AT&T (sbcglobal).
