I have a 10 or 12 year old whirlpool. Side by side fridge, odds at TOL or close to it. For some time I've noticed the compressor comes on long before the circulating fan in the freezer. I thought the fan was bad, so I replaced it - yet it still does the same thing.

Does anyone else notice this happening with their fridge of the same time frame? Everything is computer controlled, from the " theater" lighting to the temp control so if it's not working properly I'd look there next. I replaced the computer once about 5 years ago.

In my Kenmore Elite (LG) bottom mount, it's the complete opposite.  The circulating fan comes on for several minutes (not always though) before the compressor turns on.

In the Commercial Kitchen

Right after the Defrost Cycle in my Walk in Freezer, The compressor kicks on and there is about a 2 minute delay before the Evaporator Fan Motors Kick in.

My guess is to take the heat out of the evaporator from the Defrost Elements as to not to blow Hot Air and fluctuate the temperature too drastically in the chamber.

I have had an Amana SxS, a Whirlpool SxS, and they both do the same thing. Not just after defrost but on any time they start up. I asked the tech at the house one day about this and he said this is normal operation and the purpose was for energy efficiency, that the fan will not blow warm air into the unit. It waits for the coolant to go down to temp prior to the fan engaging. So no you don't have a problem, this is normal operation and hope you saved the old fan.

Yup, I did save the old fan. I'm usually very in tune with the sounds my appliances make, puzzled as to why I missed this one. Perhaps the fan just got louder and I noticed it, the new one is quieter but half the weight of the original.
