Morning everyone. This weekend I want to give our new server a good test run to see how it responds.

I'm diverting all Discuss-o-Mat Traffic to here. Please still use your normal links just like you do everyday, but you will notice one difference. In your address bar instead of seeing http://www.automaticwasher.org/ you will see http://174.121.191.0/~automa7/

Please let me know if anything odd happens. I will be watching closely this morning. (Except for when we are eating Fred's Sunbeam breakfast :-)

I had to log everyone out, so please just log back in.

We should be ready to go know. So far so good, fingers crossed.

Oh thanks Jay, yeah I forgot to mention, it will lose the wash/rinse/spin status as we change to over to the new server. New ones will be recorded as you begin to click around over here.

The new server seems to work fine here,Robert. My Wash, rinse, spin status worked for me for info. The "Throwing Water" tread seemed to take just a tad bit longer to load with all the photos.

I just opened up the "Throwing Water" thread again. It opened with all the photos in a jiffy (very fast).

Oh we're on the new server now. That's good. So far everything works great on my side.

"I will be watching closely this morning. (Except for when we are eating Fred's Sunbeam breakfast :-)"

Robert, I don't mean to get off topic but: A sunbeam breakfast? So do you and Fred eat irons, toasters and sandwich makers now? lol. (ducks and runs) I prefer Proctor Silex myself, nothing better than a CRT monitor full of metal shavings!lol.

Yes the load speeds of pictures will be variable depending on exactly how many people are simultaneously clicking on threads, or posting. When someone uploads a picture or downloads a large service manual this probably will slow down the site temporarily, but it will be quick and temporary. Also at :12 minutes past ever hour the site will become very slow for 20 seconds as it backs up its database.

In general to me so far it seems to load pictures 50% faster than on the old server.

Louis I'll let Fred tell you what's for breakfast :-)

Robert -

The 'Your Photo Album' function doesn't seem to be working properly. I wanted to add some more pictures to mine this morning, but clicking that tab just brings me back to the homepage instead of the album edit page.

Thanks for keeping us all informed and for being so diligent with this!

Gordon

Photo album should be working now. Just when you think you've checked everything, nope lol. Although come to think of it I haven't copied over the last changes to the albums so it might be a few days back.

Terry I'm sure Fred will let us all know when he's had a chance. He's doing important vacuum club work now!

Just so its clear, it is all safe to continue posting in all threads across the forums. Resume normal reading and posting everyone.

Happy Weekend all.

Since Fred is busy now making our Sunbeam breakfast, I'll tell now...

It consists of:

Coffee in the Sunbeam Coffeemaster,

Sausage cooked in the Sunbeam Controlled Heat Automatic Fry pan,

Standard Sunbeam Waffle receipe mixed in a model 11 Sunbeam Mixmaster,

and of course

Sunbeam Waffles cooked in the Sunbeam Waffle Baker!

all these appliances listed above are from the early to mid 1950s! Yay!

mmmmm, good for a winter morning!

I noticed something was different. I had to log in, and Firefox asked if I wanted to save my password, only does that on new sites. Also everything looked off, all my formatting was gone, and the AEB was switched off. I clicked CTRL + a few times and thing are looking normal again!

Enjoy your weekend sunbeam breakfast. Now that I know how to adjust my Sunbeam waffle maker, I just have to figure out how to remove the control knob that has 50+ years of gunk holding it on. BTW, thanks for posting the repair instructions! I might make waffles in it tomorrow!

Note: Am I wrong or is the Icon missing from the site address? I used tabbed browsing and I thought that the agitator icon used to show up on the tab, as it does in the bookmark. Now I only getting a blank page icon in the upper left of the tab.

GE/Panasonic/Breville breakfast

100% whole wheat toast toasted in my Breville SmartOven; 1 beef sausage patty cooked in early 1990s Panasonic microwave oven; coffee perked in my 21st century GE Coffee maker; 1 double yolked fried egg cook on my 1984 GE range. All assembled in a breakfast sandwitch with a slice of ameican cheese and salsa!! YUM!!

Sounds just delicious to me Robert!!! It seems to me that the system is working much faster, even the downloading of pictures. Anyone else notice this?

System comment

I'm on AT&T DSL and IE 7.0. It is considerably slower loading for me I've noticed. I opened the thread Throwing Water and noticed it crawling. I went and pour myself a cup of coffee and went out to the garage and lowered the temp on the water heater (external knobs) and came back and it was just finishing. I'd say about 2 minutes.

Bob, did that happen at around :12 minutes after the hour? I'm asking because you made this post at :19 after the hour.

Well, given the time signature of the posting, I would say it was somewhere between 12 & 15 after the hour. That's probably when I started opening the thread. And this post tooik probably 30 seconds to compose initially. Hey, did I just notice that when you update/edit a post, the time signature changes from the original one?

At :12 past every hour the system will slow down to a crawl for about 30 to 60 seconds because its taking a back up of its database (all the posts, etc.) as a safety measure. Under most circumstances it should clear up and move fast again after its done. Try loading a few picture threads now and see how it is responding. There are quite a few people viewing threads at the moment but its not doing anything else.

Robert, I went to the thread again. It took between 1.5 and 2.0 minutes to downnload. The picture of you & Fred you are currently using in the vatar took a good 30 seconds to download. BTW, tell Fred I really like that hat.

That is strange Bob, because for me its almost double the speed. Terry and others are also report an increase in download speed. The new sever is located in Houston, Texas so its even closer to you, the old one was in southern California. Could be something with your connection, hopefully it will speed up for you within a few hours.

Hi Robert,

After my reporting that the old server was running slowly, picture download performance is now back to normal.

Everything is happening almost instantly so far :)

Great work

Nathan

Ok everyone now that I'm comfortable with how the new server is behaving, I have to make one last change and then I'm done. Maybe I can actually go work on a washer now.

To explain this in a simple way I have to tell the internet now not to use http://174.121.191.0/~automa7/ anymore and now start using http://www.automaticwasher.org/.

I just sent that request off but it can take between 2 and 72 hours to refresh across the entire internet. Once your browser switches back to automaticwasher.org you'll slow down for a minute and your wash/rinse/spin buttons will reset again.

Again I apologize about the inconvenience of this move. The good thing now is we can relax and know that our web host wont be shutting us down. After the warning I received we came very close to being shut down as we were just getting too busy for the server we were on. It's great actually that we have become such a busy website, but this was stressful to say the least. I do appreciate everyone's patience during this transition.
