Optigrill tops George Foreman

Hi Mixguy, you will not go wrong with the Optigrill. I have had mine since May and love it. The grill I had was a George Forman. We have an small appliance swap meet a couple of times a year where I live. Going to donate it to the swap meet. The grill plates are removable and go right into the dishwasher. Go with the Optigrill and you'll never look back.

I received the grill on Wed. but today was the first time I had a chance to try it and....it doesn't work. I turned it on, selected sandwich, waited for the preheat and then the indicator flashed white meaning there was a problem. The grill was cold. I tried several times and always the same result. I called the Home Shopping channel and was told that item is out of stock so they will refund my money. Afterward I went onto the site and I found the optigril but under a different item number, and for $80 more. It said it was in stock. I called customer service and asked what was going on. They kept trying to tell me that it is a different item and thus they cannot exchange mine. The only difference is that the item # for $80 more does NOT come with a recipe book. I am totally frustrated.

Call the manufacturer?

<span style="font-family: 'courier new', courier; color: #800080;">Is it an option to contact the manufacturer and tell them the machine was DOA?  Some say to call the store who sold it to you and some honor the warranties.  Might be worth the call to see what they say.</span>

Just for the hell of it I decided to check the price of the optigrill on the Home Shopping Channel and lo and behold, they had it on sale again...just 2 weeks after I sent the last one back and they told me they didn't know when they would be getting any more in! I ordered it so hopefully this one will work.

*Update*

The grill arrived on Fri. I tested it without food just to ensure that it did work and it does....that's the good news. Now the frustrating part. I have purchased a lot of merchandise from the Home Shopping Channel over the years but this last experience has to be the worst. Right after I got the grill on Fri., I received an email from TSC with a discount code for 15% off but the code was only good for yesterday and today. That would take another $25 off the grill. So I called TSC yesterday and asked if I could have the 15% applied to purchase made last Wed. rather than having me pack up the grill, send it back (at their expense) and re-order the grill to get the 15% discount. I was told no...not possible. So I asked to speak to a supervisor in the customer care centre. While on hold waiting for the transfer I was disconnected so I called back again. This time I was told that yes I could have the discount applied but the discount code was only valid at 10 pm last night and I would have to call back then...huh? In the email it said the code was good from 8 am yesterday until 10 pm tonight and while I was on the phone I was also on the website entering the order with the code...which it accepted! The person refused to budge...so I said fine...I'll call back. I called back this morning and this time was told once again that the discount could not be applied on a past order. I was transferred to the customer care supervisor and she told me the same thing. So even though I explained to her that already TSC had spent $30 in shipping for the first defective item that I returned, another $15 for the item I received on Fri. and now would spend another $15 for me to ship the item back tomorrow and then another $15 for them to send me the item again just so I could get the $25 discount...that was OK with them. Does no one have common sense any more??? She still refused to see the stupidity so now I am sending the unit back tomorrow, have ordered the new unit and it will have cost TSC $75 in shipping costs just because they refuse to give me the discount on my last order for the same unit made last Wed.

Discounts and shipping prices

They don't spend 15 bucks for shipping each time. For such a huge company, they will most likely pay the shipping service on a bigger scale then package, more like truck/container.

And stuff as rebates on past orders can cause HUGE trouble in acounting, especially in tax-topics.

They are shipping by Canada Post which for a parcel of this size, it would cost a lot more for you or I so I think they are indeed spending $15. Regardless, it makes no sense and is an inconvenience to the customer as well as causing more work for their shipping/receiving department.

Well I mailed the grill back to them on Mon. after re-ordering the grill again in order to get the discount. They received the grill I returned on Tues. and on Thurs. I received the 3rd unit (maybe it was the same one I just sent back...I should have marked the box). I tested it to cook a frozen hamburger. It worked great and the hamburger came out perfectly done at medium.

I did progress my issue/concern to upper management and they called me on Tues. to apologize for the frustration I had to go through. He agreed that because I was a long time customer and have placed many orders with them, they should have made an exception and just given me the discount without my having to re-order the unit and return the one I had. As a gesture of goodwill he gave me a $50 credit to use on any future purchase.
