Bath soap is on my mind. Grandma used to give me a bath with Camay when i was a baby. Ive used aloe Ivory and liked it, and now i see Ivory is also available in lavender. Ive been thinking about buying Camay, but its hard to find. What do YOU use?

Jergens, Dove, Ivory. But definitely not Irish Spring.

In college my roommates would borrow my Ivory liquid hand-soap, to use in the shower. Based on the look and consistency, I found this rather humorous.

Beleive it or not I was in the jock-dorm! Talk about humungous cosmic errors of fate! *LOL*

So, how many of you have a few bars of "Fairy" brand on-hand?

What do YOU use?

I usually use the liquid versions....Body wash in the shower.
And certain ones contain way too much in the order of 'soap scum' and tend to build up on the shower doors. I try to avoid the 'extra creamy' formulas for that reason.

It seems that the liquid soaps make less of a mess on the shower doors than the bar soaps.

And these bars of 'Fairy' soap are in my bathroom just for display purposes......

I use diluted Dawn dishwashing detergent for bathing. I discovered it would work back in 1979 when I was moving; spent the night at the new place and discovered that the soap was still at the old place. I have taken it to places with hard water and had no trouble lathering up. I squeeze a small amount onto my wet washcloth and scrub myself clean, but it is not as dramatic as the television ads with gunky casseroles.
Since it is a detergent, it does not leave soap film on the clear curtain that goes all the way around the clawfoot tub. When the curtain does need cleaning, some Dawn on a wet terry wash cloth and a wipe up and a wipe down over the whole curtain and a rinse complete the job.

thanx Tom, i just spit my drink out from the shock! Pass the lotion, please! btw, i have used heavy wax in my hair, and used Dawn to wash it out.

In the summer I can use anything in the shower. So I go to the Sally Beauty store and get a pint of Queen Helene Mint Julep Shampoo Concentrate and mix it 50/50 with water. As a shampoo, it sucks, but as shower gel, it's great! The spearmint is a good smell for the morning--far superior to the way-too-heavily perfumed shower gels you get at the supermarket. Kind of wakes you up without slapping you in the face.

In the winter, I have severely dry skin so I have to be really careful about what I use. All the really extra-moisturizing shower gels are still way too drying for me, so I've started using this Avon stuff that's unscented and has no dyes or anything and is just basically supposed to be good for your skin. It's pretty good, actually. Then after the shower but while still wet, it's Neutrogena oil all over. Before bedtime, it's a heavy coating of Nivea Creme.

That's probably more information than you wanted, huh?

no, its just perfect! youve taken us from day to night, summer thru winter, i love it! (LOL!)

I've tried many different things over the years but Steve (gyrafoam) told me about L'occitaine products a year ago and have switched for good now. I also have very dry skin - particularly in winter and this is the best stuff! I use the Shea Butter soap in winter (the "Milk" variety has almost no fragrance and has been non-irritating) and in summer, I've been using the Bonne Mere "utility soap" that is not as heavy but still non-drying.

I use Caress Body wash...

Like Veg, I get dry skin in the winter, and after trying several different things I settled on Caress. For me it works.
I also prefer using body wash/gel for bathing because it does not muck up the tub/doors as bad as bar soap.
For bar soap, I like original Zest.

Depends on my mood,

depends on a lot of factors, and one of them is whether or not I have "company!"

Simply put, I am a "soap slut." In the tub/shower right now, I have Dial gold, Coast Original, Dove Fragrance Free, and Walgreens Gentle.

I LIKE the scent of Irish Spring, but only on other guys.

I'm thinking that Lever 2000 is a reissue of Phase III, with a different scent.

Not a big fan of the Caress scents, thogh it does feel nice.

In the bathroom itself, I have Eternity shower gel, Latitude Longitude shower gel, and Claiborne shower gel.

When I find a commodity shower gel I like, it tends to get discontinued or reformulated (essentially the same thing). For a while, Go-Jo Industries (Go-Jo heavy duty hand cleaner, and the originators of Purell) offered a nice one called "Shower Up."

Avon had one for a few years called "Aqua Clean" had a very nice, fresh scent that faded fairly quickly after drying.

Shower gels just don't seem to last as long as bar soaps for me for some unknown reason.

My former dermatologist said that I really should only use Dove or Dove liquid, but I don't really like the scents, except for the newer Dove with green tea and cucumber.

I only use Dawn in the shower when I am cleaning up after certain activities some would consider very exotic.

I make my own

In the shower I currently have some patchouli and oatmeal that I made last year. It's great if you have oily skin but also has a good balance of moisturizer (olive oil). I made many different recipes, it depends on the time of year when I choose what to put in next. This time of year when the air is getting cooler here, I like more earthy/fall tones and the patchouli fits perfectly. In the summer I like more light and airy feeling soaps and scents to get me going. Soap making has really been a lot of fun for me and I am still experimenting and learning with every batch!

Brett, many years ago I remember hearing/reading results of a study about various face & bath bar soaps and the amount of harsh ingredients that were in them. To the surprise of the researchers, Camay came in dead last as it had the highest amount. Maybe that will put an end to your search. I haven't seen that soap in any store for many years either.

I've started to buy more liquid soaps and scrubs and vary my bar soaps according to what's on sale as I haven't developed any sort of preference there. I regularly shave certain private parts and if you follow up with a scrub it provides added smoothness. Lately I've taken to buying the "for men" types of soaps as so many of the other types have scents and fragrances that are way feminine or that I otherwise can't tolerate. I really don't like walking around smelling like a girl.

There's my $.02 and hopefully not TMI.

Shower Soap

Any Level 2000 product that will moisturize as I have extremely dry skin in the winter. Summer months use just about anything except ZEST. YECCH! I hate the way that stuff smells!

Dawn is the product of choice for animal rescue teams to wash petroleum based oil off seabirds and mammals.

For a bubble bath, any shampoo will do just fine. I may try Palmolive dishwashing liquid the next time I take a bubble bath (not very often). I'd avoid dw liquids that have triclosan in them. Dial has it, and it makes me break out all over (in the strangest places, too, like armpits! (TMI?)). Oddly, it works great in Colgate toothpaste, really cuts down on plaque, no adverse reactions there.

Goodness, I could not imagine for the life of me using Dawn liquid as a body wash. I too have very dry skin and that would send me into dry skin itch hell for a week!
Just about the only soap I can use is Basis soap for sensitive skin. I used to like Dial Gold, but it is very drying. I think as I get older my skin is drying out more and more. But then again I work in an extremely dry environment too, which doesn't help.
I find that most liquid moisturizing gels are just as drying as the Dial bar soap is.
Is Lux still on the market? I haven't seen that one in years. It was very popular in the 40's and 50's.

I get my soap at TJMaxx or Marshall's. They usually have a great selection of imported, high-end soaps and shower gels at a very reasonable price. Several years ago, L'Occitane must have discontinued some scents and I must have hit every TJMaxx and Marshall's in the ATL area to purchase it all -- probably about 40 bars of the stuff!

I also really like soap from Lush. Very pricey, doesn't last long at all, but some very yummy soaps. Supposedly they are opening a store in ATL, but nothing has happened yet.

Lux is still around, though it's hard to find. I come across Palmolive bar soap and Camay every now and then. The one bar soap I really miss is Cashmere Bouquet. There's a version on the market now but it doesn't smell anything at all like the original kind. Neither does the powder.

We've probably shared WAY more information in this thread than was necessary, but at least we've proven that we're a squeaky-clean bunch!
