Found this at the side of the road. Tappan 40" Model HADV 668 7M

The good. Its complete and probably only needs burner/oven valve rebuild and safety valve rebuild. All storage bins inside the compartment on the left are present. Burner covers are there, and all other parts.

The bad: Tie down rope broke on a curve on the way home. Stove tipped over. The top (backsplash - which was not screwed on unbeknownst to me) flew into road and is bent, diecast trim broke with missing pieces. The clock lost its knobs and bezel but is otherwise unharmed. Timer works too.

Two knobs with their glass trim rings broke and the storage door latch knob broke. Porcelain chipped on left storage door.

This is still a good solid stove to fix if I locate the damaged parts - already sent a few e-mails to TOAC and other sources.

Enjoy!

Absolutely love classic gas stoves where the oven flame changes size rather than the newer systems with on and off cycles. (Although the newer cycling does allow for "keep-warm" temps.)

Call me crazy, but I also like they was these broil on "low" (Say 350*F), which is particularly well-suited for non-steaks meats such as chicken and fish.

Best of luck David. I really, really like the lines of that stove. A refreshing design when compared against the more stodgy Wedgewoods and O'Keefe & Merrits of the same vintage that I so often see up for grabs in my area.

I had a friend help unload the stove today. Here it is with the storage doors open. To the right of the stove is an old ice box. Behind it is a late 30s/early 40s Estate brand stove that came out of my Uncle's ranch house. The house was built in the early 1900s, they used old newspapers as wallpaper in the kitchen. I saw dates as early as 1911 on the newspapers.

I have the electric version of that beauty and have had great luck in finding parts needed everywhere from ebay to old appliance repair places. Still need a drawer (the electric version has a drawer under the oven controls), one knob and a new drawer handle....not that I'm hinting you should part it out..... Good luck with it!

John, That is a lovely stove.

So far I have purchased the two manifold panels, I only needed the right one. It was bent when the stove tipped, and the door release was broken. From the same seller I bought the thermostat and safety valve system. His is in better condition than mine.

I found a web site that has 5 red glass burner knob trim rings, just waiting for them to tell me how much they are. The knobs themselves are reproduced for $18 each, but they don't say "Front" and "Back" for their respective burners like mine.

Is the inside of your oven chrome? mine is and it is all rusting. I hope it isn't too hard to disassemble.

Basically all I need is the top piece where the clock and timer mount.

Best of luck with the restoration. I love the looks of the old stoves very classy. Magic happens when you cook with Tappan.
