I realize this post is for a stove not a washer or dryer, but it's a 25 year old stove, that I've noticed when I use the oven, the igniter will glow, for sometimes 10 minutes before the burner lights, once it does the igniter continues to glow.... It never used to do that, because the igniter comes on.... would it mean the module ( safety valve is bad or going bad) and not the igniter ??? Once lit it doesn't seem to take as long to lite to keep the oven up to temp, but again the igniter never stops glowing until I turn the oven off....

Slow To Light Tappan Gas Oven

The igniter has gotten weak [ It is not shorted ] If it was shorted it would blow the internal fuse and would not work at all.

Hi Jim, you just need to replace the weak igniter, when the igniter is in good shape the burner valve will open lighting the oven burner in around one minute,

Note: the igniter stays on the entire time the oven is heating this system is not like a gas dryer or gas furnace where the igniter cycles off as soon as the burner lights. It was designed this way to keep cost down to build gas ranges, it does use a lot of power however and the igniters only last 3-6 years if the oven is used almost daily.

Thanks all, and Jon
I thought the igniter was the problem, but when it was glowing I thought it was still good.... I bought the stove around 96, never started using it until around 2005, I use the oven once a week on the weekends, I noticed it taking progressively longer to light to the point it is now, it is original to the stove.... Thanks again...Jim
