Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Interesting robotic stir-frying concept. Price over here seems to be $260 and up. A bit pricey for my taste. Read some reviews... generally good except for those who say theirs caught fire. So I woudn't run the thing unattended.

I'll probably stick with my Oster fryer. Yes, it takes a quart or two of oil but when I have the hankering for french fries or other deep fried stuff it does the trick.

One of the reviews opined that the fries done in the Actifry taste more baked than fried, and that one could get pretty much the same results in the oven with some oil. I suppose a convection oven would give even more similar results, minus the automated stirring.

I'll probably not get one of these, unless they show up at Costco for less than $100. Which they may in due time - and Costco has an unlimited return policy so the warranty/self-immolation issue is slightly less of a concern.

For stir-frying I use a wok or a saute pan. Works quite well. Never thought of trying to stir fry frozen french fries but it might work!

Seamus...

...is good to hear that someone has used one and they were happy with the results. We were in 'Good Guys' the other day and actually looked at one, but decided that having a fryer in the house of any sort is likely to further encourage bad beahviour on our part, so thought it best to not buy it...

Oh, and it was $329!!! (GBP220)

I would, however, we interested to know how you go when you use it yourself...

the price is ridiculous but I beleive it is more than just a chip fryer. I roast veggies a LOT and I think I saw someone demonstrate doing the same sort of thing in the Actifry with a teaspoon of olive oil. I use more than a tsp to roast them in so it seems like a good gadget to have. Still find the price prohibitive so will wait until a second hand one pops up on Ebay and experiment! Would like to know how you get on with it!

I have one too

I got it on sale for £115, but I really have to say they are a waste of money. I find them best for sausages but chips (french fries) come out more like oven chips and to be frank it is far easier to open a packet of McCain and put then in the oven. I love roased veggies but again it is easier just to put them on a tray in the oven as the "churn" action will tend to reduce softer veg to mush. And it is not really practical for small quantities (for one) either.

It will be something to get at Goodwill or perhaps CHEAP on ebay, otherwise dont bother, its a waste of money unless you like a LOT of chips. If you really like chips then I suggest getting an inexpensive deep fat fryer and making it an occasional treat - I am afraid there is nothing to beat well made chips (from potatoes) cooked in good quality oil or even (shock horror) lard

The pic is mine in action at a recent meet - only the third or fourth time it has been used

lard

The best chips are cooked in lard in an old saucepan on the hob.

Just keep a wet towel too hand in case it catches fire and tie a nutritionist to a char and make them watch in revulsion.
