I made it thru one but just barely! Looking out my front door, not nearly as scary as it was at night.

My Buick goes to the scrapyard!, amazingly most of my car memorabilia collection in the shop was ok, even my glass display case and coke machine. Got electricity last night tha army cleaned up the big stuff and two church groups helped with the little stuff, looks better today.

Wow Don, that is REALLY scary, but the important thing is that you are ok. Cars, possesions, and even vintage appliances can all be replaced. Having been through a tornado myself, it takes something like that to make you realize it. Did you actually have a tornado touch down by you, or is this damage mostly from straight-line winds associated with violent storms.

Holy Cow Don!!

Boy, I'm glad you're alright! I thought about a few of our members during that weather mess! They mentioned a few towns in western Tennessee, but I didn't think the storms hit you!

I hope things go better for you soon! Are your dad and mom ok? What about the new home and your fiance?

Take care -

Venus

Don I had no idea you had gone through this. I am so thankful that you are OK!! Terry

It's That Time Of Year Again!

Where tornadoes are always a strong possibility whenever you get a fast moving coldfront rising over a warm front, and having a low pressure area being overtaken by a high pressure area just makes for a stronger possibility of these types of storms! This is most common this time of year
Everyone should make sure all the members of their household know where to go in the event of a tornado, animals included. Since basements are so uncommon in Texas we have a closet in the middle of the house which we can use. We even trained our dogs to go in there on commmand! We did this after two years ago a severe T-storm moved thru our area and the house really started to shake from the wind. Two of the dogs went in the closet with us, but one of them ran in the kitchen and refused to leave. The kitchen BTW, has very large glass windows on three sides! But remember, YOUR life it the most important one!
Fortunately the storm passed very quickly without much damage except for part of a fence being blown down. Since we live in a rather rural area (with a few trailer parks nearby complete with "ladies in mumus") I figure we live in an area that has a strong possibility for tornado activity.

I'm sorry to see what you are going through BUT it looks like it could have been much worse.....You are able to write about it :-) I hope that all of your friends and family are OK.

Good luck!!,
Rich

Yikes!!!

That must have been so scary!

I'm glad that it wasn't worse the it was.

Thank God that you're o.k.

Mike

Don, glad you are ok. We who live in Illinois have to be concerned too for these types of storms. Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing. Gary

So glad to see that you and your family are OK. I have lived in WI most of my life but have never seen a tornado, only the damage they leave behind. One of the last years I was school board president a tornado struck just outside of our little town on the night of graduation. We had a gym full of people to get to shelter. After the storm passed there was no damage to the school or town but we were without power for over 8 hours.

I now live in Iowa and yesterday was Tornado Awareness Day,,, so we had several mock drills. If people would only practice and listen to these drills it could save a lot of lives.

The season has only just begun here for us. All ready this year we have had reports of over 20 different sightings... could be a long summer

Holy crap, Don!

Glad to hear you survived. Mom & Pop okay? How about the "new" house?

Man. I can't imagine.

Tell me that's not your beautiful Riviera under that tree? It's some other Buick, right?

Got phonelines today! Yaay. Also got two more hail storms! Boo! Friends and out of town groups and the Army got a lot of it cleaned up. Thanks to every one for your thoughts! A lot of people sustained more damage than we did. We`re very fortunate!

When it rains.....

Don:

I feel so bad about your beautiful Buick! I also here that there are more storms up your way today! Please be careful and take shelter!!

Venus

I feel bad for you too.....

I'm glad you made out without getting hurt.

PS-Try to save the Riv! =)

glad your OK

Don, that is so surreal, I can't imagine experiencing anything like that, storms are tamer up here and not as intense as in your area. Glad your OK and I am sure this was an unnerving experience.

Don, I know that we are blessed when we escape uninjured from one of these storms, but damn, it still hurts like hell to see things we have loved and cared for smashed in an instant. Where were you during the storm? Were you wakened by the sirens or just the noise?

After our tornado a couple of weeks after 9/11/2001 when I lost most of my big trees, I was almost tempted to plant bamboo instead of trees because it would not cause so much damage when it came down. I am very sorry that you had to be in the storm's path. And as bad as I felt after our tornado, I could not help but be grateful that it had lifted enough to where it broke our trees, messed up siding and cars, but only two residences had the type of damage that forced people out during the repairs. On the comic side, the sight of me with a chain saw cutting up trees and hauling the pieces out to the street probably had the same effect as one of those pictures where you see the shot of the back of a lady in a gown, but when you see the face, it's a guy with a beard and moustache! And then the gawkers started walking and driving through the neighborhood just staring at our losses. It was such an invasion of our privacy and so embarrassing. Out in front of my house I had cut up trees stacked so high that it looked like Valhalla at the start of Gotterdammerung. I used to love storms, but that cured me. Now there is some fear.

Now I would like to ask those who live in tornado-prone areas, why don't you have basements or at least storm cellars with Dorothy Gale doors?

I know Tom. But our soil and water table prevent basements or storm cellers. And I really have no true unprotected center of my house.

Same here, the water table is relatively high, clay soil also. Some older homes have basements, or half basements, but I think that they all usually flood in the winter rains. Makes for good well drilling, though.

Don:WOW!! That tornado sure came to close for comfort-just saw a story about it on Fox News.Scary!!Glad you are OK!!!Too bad about your car!Hope your insurance will cover it.Thats sort of a bad thing-in the West and Midwest-there are storm shelters to hide in--In the South-there isn't-I saw a funnel years ago out here in NC-glad it didn't touch down-but it was close!!In my home at the time---no place to hide! Before I saw the funnel-got golf-ball sized hail-it even woke me up from a mid shift sleep.Thought someone was on my roof-My neighbor wanted to park his car under my carport-let him-so the hail wouldn't tear it up.
