Hey guys,

I picked up a bottle of Tesco's own Spring Fresh fabric softener today. It was £2.00 for 1.5 litres (compared with £2.00 for 750ml of Lenor) and it smelt great, so I gave it a shot.

I have to say, having now done 2 washes with it, it's fantastic! Softens well and the smell is spot on - just enough to keep things smelling fresh, without being overpowering.

Thought I'd give you all a heads up - I know the UK folks on here love a bargain ;).

All the best,
Chris

I have been using the Sainsbury's equivalent recently - £1.80 for 1.5litres. I think its smashing! For larger loads I use a little more than the recommended amount and still does a great job.

is anyone else highly alarmed

In a word...no. It's used in minimal amounts. Formaldehyde is used in milk to keep it from spoiling - we've all been drinking the stuff for years.

spoodles...

...Google it. formaldehyde has been used as a preservative in milk for years, although having done some digging, it doesn't appear to be used as such in the UK anymore, but certainly in plenty of other parts of the world.

Not that I'm condoning the use of it, just that I doubt it will have any effect when used in a fabric softener. Especially as in the EU, any product containing 0.05% or more of formaldehyde has to state so on the packaging, so the amount included will be incredibly minimal.

Based on what formaldehyde does and is generally used for, I don't REALLY see the need for it in a softener.

Tesco's does not make detergents, in fact no supermarket does! They have a contract manufacturer who does. I wondered who they used. I do know Mcbride make some private label brands but they never let you know who lol.

I wouldn't shop at Tesco's if it was the last place on earth. Dreadful place and poor ethical values. It would not surprise me if Tesco used formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is actually natural and we are surround by minute traces of it all the time, however you would not want it in the concentrations found in FS or beauty products.
