Help Support :

All Hayley needs is a pair of rats and she's all set. Pet rats are fine critters. Smart, sweet, clean (long as you clean their cage often).

I left my rat, Hermione in my friend Henry's care, and she's doing well after the death of her first cage mate and she likes her new mate as well.

Critters

"There's nothing wrong with having lots of critters around the house, never trust a person who doesn't like them."

Yep, just ask Elly Mae. And they really like it if you have a "cee-ment pond" in your backyard, too

Of rats and men......

Aw Jason:

Luna was precious! How long do rats and mice usually live? When I was younger, my sister had a hamster that lived forever! What happened with Luna?

The bad news is......the snake escaped.
The good news is.....the snake escaped.

It should have been named "Houdini". ;-)

AWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!

Jason,

Luna was BEAUTIFUL. I have 2 rats, Sneezer and Templeton. Tempy is just monsterous. He is bigger than most kittens LOL. He's a fun one though. He's a little daredevil. He also unfortunately has a neurological disorder that causes his head to slightly tilt. Sneezer on the other hand is a LOVE. he knows his name, responds to simple commands, and is absolutely in love with me. When I call his name he comes running out of his house and waits patiently for me to open the door, when I do finally open it, he jumps from his house into my hands. I always give him a big kiss on his head and always licks my face as soon as I take him out. He is absolutely the dog of Rats. He is beyond smart and beautiful. Sometimes we'll have naptime and I'll lay down on my bed and He'll snuggle up to my chest and lay his head on my arm and completely konk out. I tell ya, I just don't know what I'd do without my 2 boys. Venus, Rats live an average of 2-5 years, although 5 years is a little on the rare side, I'd say a more accurate age range would be 2-3 years. The same with mice, you would be hard pressed to get more than 3 years max out of a mouse. The longest my mousies have ever lived was 2 12 years. I'm so glad there's another rat lover in the club LOL :)

Take Care,
Geoff

Geoff: What a pretty rat. Those things are smart as a dog. Luna learned her name is a very short time and she also learned a few tricks. She got the dreaded respiratory disease and died 2 weeks later. My next rat, Hermione, which is still living happily at my friend Henry's house, isn't as smart but still very sweet. Henry's rat, Sue-Lee (a play on the French word "Souris") was a daredevil, she was crazy. She jumped off of stuff just for fun and would try to get into everything. She was also a stubborn little thing when she didn't want to do anything.

Toggle: That's a rat and I'm not kissing her butt.

I suppose our house growing up was a bit like the Clampetts on a much lower budget but we had all sorts of things like meeces, rats, gerbils, mice, lizards, snakes, guinea pigs, an owl, a rooster, budgies and of course the dog and cat to normalize things. The cat was oblivious to them all and the dog was a super nanny watching over them

Cute little pocket pets! When I was a kid I had two teddy bear hamsters, one right after the other, named Hamlet and Lucky. I also remember my grandmother having a budgie that she hated and would keep covered all the time so it wouldn't make noise. According to family legend, Gram also sprayed it with Raid on occasion.

Polluted Parakeet!

Boy...that was one mean granny!!!! I take it that the budgie was a *gift*, and something that she didn't buy.

Actually, she was a baby rat, so yeah, she was very small. Also, pet rats aren't as big as the NYC subway rats and alot more delicate.

Henry bought a new mate for Hermione, my current rat that I left with him. He's so smart, he figured out that when he drinks water from the dispenser (it's the rodent cage kind that they lick the little metal ball to make it work), he bangs it against the cage to let the air bubble go up, giving him a good flow of water. Yes, they are "mate"ing fine but no babies yet.
