Robert---Does your Lady K have a suds saver? If so, does the splashing water during the return pop the tub light bulb? Ours used to do that all the time. I've been told that later Kenmore models used a slow agitation speed during the return, which makes sense.
Again, on one of his trips to fix the washer, our repairman "jerry-rigged" a couple of things. He put a foil shield in front of the tub light (which changed the way the tub was lit, so I removed it).
We had a problem with the off-balance kick-out at one point. Our Model 80 had a "Cycle Hold" toggle switch which had the same function as pushing in or pulling out the control knob on a machine with a dial (ours had those colored cycle buttons and the rapid-advance timer). Anyway, we couldn't get it to reset out of the kick-out mode, so he rigged it this way: When the off-balance buzzer sounded and the motor shut down, you'd open the lid and it would automatically reset everything. The motor would kick back in, you'd redistribute the load, close the lid, and the spin cycle would resume.
If the unbalanced condition happened at the beginning of the final spin, you'd usually get your hands showered with the spray rinses while you were redistributing the load.
