The 70's Blackstone perf tub washer!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Have to ask this. What year is the machine? Did Blackstone produce all their own washers up till the end,..or was Westinghouse involved at all?

This is fascinating! I do believe these machines were produced in NY state, yet..in all my years i have never actually seen one of their washers in the northeast...though i did see an old junked dryer once.

Mark, thanks so much for sharing all the great pictures. First time I have ever seen a newer Blackstone up close. Very nice control panel, does it have any lights? Looks like an unusual fill tube as well. Hope that you guys are having a blast which I am sure you are. Terry

I always thought that Blackstone washers had very interesting designs. It's a shame that they didn't enjoy a very large market share.

I very much enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing and thanks for saving this awesome machine.

Commercial Blackstone

I may be telling something everyone already knows, but these perf tub Blackstones were also available in coin-op versions.I visited a friend in the late 70s in Ft Wayne,In.in the midst of a long road trip and needed to wash. The laundry in his apt.complex was equipped with Blackstones.Really quality looking machines, and remember the washing action was teriffic.
I was raised in southern West Virginia(45 minutes from Wytheville Mark). My father got his teaching degree the year after I was born(1958)and could not find a position near our home.He accepted a job in Toms River,NJ,where we lived for three years. My mother made a friend whose husband was very successful.Probably the first people with money my mom had ever been around. She was VERY brand conscious(she drove a Jag and he drove Lincolns).Blackstone was all she would use in her home,so it was considered a premium brand in that part of the country.
