Its where the Aussie Hoover comes from
Hi Guys,
That washbowl, and that agitator are identical to the one in the Aussie Hoover. The one Leon and I bought in Melb should arrive this week, and I'll take some pics to compare.
Is this really from the 70's? By the late 60's the Aussie ones had an integral tub ring that did away with the clothes guard, and the lint filter is mounted on outer tub ring.
My understanding is, that there is no Westinghouse to be seen here at all, its all Blackstone. The design is like a Maytag in many ways, with a centre point suspension with 4 springs, belt driven gearbox and pump. The big differences are that the outer tub, bolts onto the gearbox, and there is a high rise agitator shaft. The Hoovers have a light and quite flimsy cabinet when it is dissassembled, however due to the cast iron gearbox, they are an amazingly heavy machine to try and move. In Australia, that gearbox with an electric pump, survived up until the last 80's, when it was replaced with the standard reversing motor design that most Aussie washers have now had for 20 years.
