I seriously doubt that Cadillac would allow the emblem to be used on a stove. They could have, but I would be surprised.

Remember the ads in Life and other magazines where jewels were used in the Cadillac crest and credit was given at the bottom of the page? That was where I learned the names of famous jewelers.

I think it's called a De'ville

after a quick google image search a few images of them posted and yep they had the Caddy emblem... pretty cool

Well, It's Not Like....

Cadillac didn't do a little borrowing itself.

The so-called "Cadillac crest" is an adaptation of the coat of arms of Antoine Laumet de la Mothe Cadillac (1658-1730), a French explorer who helped start a settlement that would later become Detroit. The founders of the Cadillac Motor Car Company thought to honor Detroit's founder in this way, evidently not realizing or caring that some rather strict rules govern the correct use of coats of arms, and that slapping them on car radiators is not one of the correct usages.

But even Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac himself seems to have done a little borrowing; his coat of arms has been found to be bogus, something he drew up himself based on a neighbor's coat of arms. Cadillac's very name was questionable; he seems to have given himself the noble "de la Mothe" when he hit the New World's shores, evidently figuring no one back home would know.

So, you have to figure O'Keefe & Merritt had just as much right to the crest as General Motors and Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac did - which is to say not very much, but they used it anyway.

Here's a link to a cool little discussion of this topic:[this post was last edited: 3/11/2013-20:22]

That V was very popular on just about everything in the late 50’s. RCA stuck it on just about all their TV models. Even my Hotpoint range has one. If you look at that OK&M you'll see it's not the real Cad crest, it only has 4 quadrants. So my question is, did OK&M use the crest on anything else? And was the Cad lookalike intentional? Or we're they trying to develop their own 'high level' trademark?
