Let's discover the best, the worst and the wierdest appliances according to our opinions? Sorry if a thread like this was created a long time ago. I don't know because I started posting here frequently only a few days ago.

I choose this forum because it's neutral. It's very difficult to find a winner because all of them have their pros and cons.

2) Best vintage semi or non-automatic washer: Maytag E2LPS big square aluminum tub wringer with the side-hinged lid.
3) Best vintage TT: Easy
4) Best vintage dryer: WP/KM with the lint filter on the top in the back right corner.

5) Best modern automatic washer: N/A
6) Best modern semi or non automatic washer: News to me!
7) Best modern TT: News to me!
8) Best modern dryer: WP/KM with the lint filter on the top in the back right corner.

9) WORST vintage washer (automatic, semi or non automatic): Anything WCI.
10) WORST modern washer: GE Adora, hands down!

Actually I'm changing my answer to #9. The 1956 Hotpoint gets low scores for its ridiculously high water consumption and 1.5 minute first spin. But really any early bolt down Bendix would really have to be the worst performer. It was a great advancement compared to wringer washers but still very primitive compared to other machines in the 50's.

The Westinghouse Laundromat isn't far behind either, but its still a better performer and its such a beautiful looking machine that it gets points just for looks alone.

My list, such as it is.

Best vintage washer? My Maytag A208. I find it hard to admit that it would possibly be 30 years.....

Second best? The 1964 Whirlpool Imperial (The POD shows up every so often, the mother with the twin sons.) Ours lasted from '64 to '78.

Not much experience with twin tubs. The Hoover's spinner was very noisy. I think the Easy was quieter.

I do like the Maytag square tub wringer.

Best dryer? Maytag Big Load/Dependable Care.

Most disappointing: First generation Maytag Neptune.

Weirdest: Neptune Toploader.

All time least favourite: Coin-op Filter-Flo.

What comes to mind when I hear "washer?"

Maytag centre dial, of course!!!
