The Detergent Aisle In a UK Supermarket Pictures

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Speaking of the new Ariel with Febreze, I'm really liking this stuff so far. There are special introductory packs of tablets and Liquitabs with 50% extra free, likewise the matching Lenor concentrate. I don't actually NEED more detergent right now (as if!), but ever trying to be the savvy shopper, decided to stock up on several of each before they run out.

Just a pity it doesn't come in a colour version too, as it is I'm only using this for whites and lights. But I'm sure P&G will come through with yet another variant for us given time!

Hey! Thanks for the comments guys and gals,

Retromom, you do spy Vaporesse in Original BLue and Lily and RIceflower Scents, I love it TBH although I hardly buy it because Im not keen on putting it in my steam generator and at the minute the tumble dryer is getting me out of the ironing more and more lately!

I find it hardly scents the fabrics but for a nice room freshener whilst ironing its fantastic.
Also Ive been known to put some in a plant spray bottle (now they discontinued the ~Comfort Refresh spray) to use as a non aerosol airfreshener, aerosols aggrevate my asthma and I have to steer clear of them at all costs.

The own label detergents sell pretty well although they do have a lot to desire in terms of performance, the powders are ok but I would steer clear of the liquids after observing a wash in Mums LG with Tesco Non Biological Liquid with no suds and dire stain removal.

I was so tempted to start an arguement, show her this website and tell her to shush up while I reset the machine to 95*c, popped in 3 Persil tablets and restore her whites back to white.

Oxydolfan. thanks for the comments, I like a nice tidy aisle - its amazing just how much more we sell when its tidy and anyway when I get chance to "Face Up" or "Rack Down" the aisle its an excuse for a good look at the packets and the occasional sniff.

Nick, Ariel with Febreze is such a dissapointment.

It smells no different to the regular Bio Ariel (we had some in a few weekas ago which was merchandised last week and sold through. Tesco wont be stocking it by the looks of it as we had only 2 cases sent in for some reason) and is no doubt something quickly thought up to catch some of the sales Persil have been robbing them of. Infact its actually probably the same powder in a different box.

The liquitabs however are slightly different in colour to the regular Bio Liquitabs but then they are pretty obvious to prospective buyers when sat next to eachother on the shelf.

Maybe if PandG put some thought into producing products that work for real people in real life they may boost sales (Persil here sells 3 times to what Ariel sells in Crewe) but whilst Ariel is working great on a white shirt I have at low temps, I am washing it on its own with a full dose of Ariel and giving it an hour soak first.

The minute Ariel goes near more than half a load or even less its cleaning power is non existant - The Australian Radiant Im on ATM does not contain bleach yet still manages to shift stains Ariel wont touch.

There was an issue with Surcare FS at the depot which serves us, we just assumed it was in short supply but It has been pulled from the shelves and none of the supermarkets are stocking it here now. Wilko's have a small supply left but I guess when its gone its gone.

Seamus! I will be ahving nightmares after seeing them Shelf Egde Labels now! bloody Morrisons, made my life hell for 6 months after the Safeway takeover sob sob! No ethics in that company whatsoever.
Walking out and getting 1 up on a self righteous bullying Deputy Manager was one fine moment in my life.
He was put on an anger management course after the Personnel manager spoke to me on the phone begging me to come back, I refused and hung up.
I was a fishmonger, and that meant to be setting up the fish counter at 6am the following morning. The only member of staff in at that time capable of doing it which no doubt cost them a few sales but hey ho. PML
Only good thing about the job was I quite liked the boater hat..... weirdo LOL.

Into Tesco the week after and never looked back LOL.

Shame its the only shop in Crewe to sell Persil TTHW without travelling 2 miles to Nantwich to get it in Sainsburys.
I force myself to go in there although its not the branch I was at.

Rant over about that company.

Erm where was I?

Oh yes, about to stick kettle on after all this typing for a cup of Washing Machine Tea!
Caffeine Detox week this week so im pretty grouchy. Just as well this stuff tastes nice.

Nick

I agree about the Finish dishwasher detergent. It was great. Since Cascade came out with all those scents, we usually use either Walmart House brand OR we have started using Electrosol lately.

I love seeing all that Persil Non-Bio. That's our favourite Persil! Love the smell of the liquid, and it does a great job cleaning, especially dog beds!

Thanks for posting those photos! It's really fun to see!

Finish - finished in USA?

I haven't seen Finish dishwashing detergent in ages! It sure brought back some memories! I will begin scouting for it here in the states! I also prefer Electrosol. For me, it not only cleans dishes, but whites and towels as well! Frankly, Cascade smells "funky". There is no slight chlorine smell as with the Electrosol. The crazy thing is that Cascade is now marketing "Cascade with Bleach" liquid. Go figure!

I feel a detergent swap coming on!! Perhaps some extra loud Mexican phosphated detergent for some Comfort Vaporesse Ironing Water? ;-)

Nick...

Hey Mate :-)

I was waiting for a comment from you lol ;).

Thats the Hastings branch of Morrisons btw.....

But we are kinda equal-as im sure to have told you I have issues with your current employer, and they are one of the 2 Supermarkets I dont use if it can be avoided!(the other one being Asda).

Hope ive not peed ya off too much m8 :)

Seamus

Seamus,

LOL!

No offence intended!
Nor am I peed off hehe.

Retromom, Im all up for a Swap alsong as the detergent is Unilever, or if it is PandG it must come with an Arielator..... the dosing ball for powdered detergents.
Do the Mexicans use toploaders or FLs?

One thing I will say is that Im a touch apprehensive about sending the vaporesse as the bottle top is not as secure with its number of screwings as say a FS bottle but as long as you dont mind wrestling with a bit o duck tape Im sure it will be fine.

Not everyday do you get asked to wrestle with some duck tape im sure, just dont scream whilst opening it nor dissapear in the steam for days after,.
There wont be a ransom note to alert your loved ones and they may think the worst.......

Nick

Number of Screwings..........

One day I will think about what I put, the whole post sounds sordid, excuse me whilst I self flaggelate.

Digs hole deeper.......... jeeeez

LOL!

lol..I think it's funny how some people are adamant that Ariel/persil cleans so much better than the other.. I'm not sure what kinda stains some people get on their laundry... I usually use Ariel in some form, just thro habit I guess. I have never pre trated stains and that includes boulgnaise sauces or grass etc adn they have always come clean. The same goes with persil. When i have bought this it's always cleaned good enough. I'm sure there really isn't much difference between the two, apart from smell and rinsing ability.

Nickuk...

I'm with you.. Pretty impressed with the new Ariel with Fabreeze. Also bought the liqitabs with 50% free and really like them..

I am a dyed in the wool Ariel user and have resisted this variant because I loathe the smell of Febreeze in all its incarnations. You seem to think it is OK so I might just try it out, I take it the Febreeze is more of an effect than a fragrance, if you know what I mean?

TBH Hoovermatic I would say it has less of a fragrance than Org Ariel.. Just a real fresh smell. I've never used fabreeze so not sure about the comparison.

We Love...

Full Facing isles and Disney Chester, Nick did you have to fill all those isles before taking the pics...LOL

Soooo much choice, was in Cardiff & Caerphilly last week and ASDA`s both have tons of ARIEL Sensitive...

Jon Jetcone from Boston was over last year and I couldnt get him away from Tesco`s own brand powder`s AND he had the cheek to call me and Jon from BRUM, "Home Brand Snobs" because we wouldnt use them, He did buy a load of them ...So Jon....What is Tesco Powder like in your machines...??????

Mike

Great Pics Guys! I tried to take a few pics, in a Denver Safeway and a Harmonds in Orme Utah... Not sure which pictures are which, but i did have some lady ask me what i was doing and a really dapper looking young man kept straing at me.. I really need to get out to Portland to visit Ritchie (Irishwashguy)(thats where i was headed, will post bout that in a minute)and go with him to a few stores and take pics...

P.S. Note the bottled water under the bleach at Safeway

Here is where the lady was asking me questions, so these must be safeway.. The ones with the water under the clorox is Harmons not Safeway

Mike,

One most certainly filled them shelves, No one goes near that aisle whilst im on duty and strict instructions are left with management on my days off that someone competant runs the show whilst im off.

In fact I often get into a strop if I get back after time off and find the warehouse section where I keep my overstocks is untidy, maybe taking my job a touch too far LOL.

Good to see Zoflora there too! One of the regular things Mum uses and Il always remember being a kid and wondering how a yellow liquid (crazy kid eh?) always turned water into a cloudy white liquid........ and I love the scent.

Mum always used Bouquet, one of my favourite scents to transport me back to being a kid.

I love the Disney Store in Chester, Im forever buying/collecting mugs, think its pretty unhealthy at the minute too.... notes 4 Wallace and Gromit "Gromit" mugs aquired with PG Tips....
