The famous Frigidaire vs Kenmore commercial!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Its true. That Cruel-Action corkscrew really rolls 'em!

As for the Frigidaire, the problem is the 1-18 has too much water in it!
To get good roll-over in a 1-18 you have the set the water level MUCH LOWER than you think!

It was about this time three years ago that I first found the site, and I remember these vids being posted then. A great way to celebrate the anniversary; thanks for posting these again. I really loved the action of the Surgilator with those jeans. I had long forgotten just how intense it was.

Jason, I notice the lack of a visible lid switch on the seemingly mid 70s Kenmore. Was this the infamous Frankenmore you videotaped? Gyrafoam is right, that DAA really does have good rollover.

Have a good one,
James

It just occurred to me that I may have sounded cynical by my use of the word 'seemingly'. I hope I did not. I do know that the Frankenmore does have the late 70s/early 80s size large capacity tub making it an accurate representation of the Kenmore models that emerged at that time.

You can tell just how full the load is because that tub ring is twitching fiercely. Good stuff.

Have a good one,
James

That is funny. Yeah, the Ultra-Clean sure does roll those clothes over and no doubt has extracted the water a LOT better than the Whirly. HOWEVER, rollover is not everything and that Whirly sure is aggressive.
Something tells me both machines would have done an excellent job of cleaning!

Yeah, Robert's videos are the truly "fair and unbiased" comparisons of both machines. Unlike the frigidaire commercial, my Kenmore won because the 1-18 was way overloaded.

Five pair of jeans is pretty much a piece of cake for a DAA equipped Kenmore. A Roto-Swirl will handle 4 (as far as I can remember).

Both machines are wonderful and awesome pieces of American engineering.

Yes, that's the famous Frankenmore (1968 top on a 1982 body (now that sounds kinky)).

HOWEVER, rollover is not everything and that Whirly sure is aggressive. Something tells me both machines would have done an excellent job of cleaning!

I totally agree with Steve, rollover isn't everything. My 1956 Norge has very little rollover, but a very similar machine got top cleaning marks in the 1954 Consumer Reports automatic washer report. Because of its aggressiveness the Whirlpool Surgilator will out clean the 3-ring agitator if the jeans are extremely dirty, but with that aggressiveness comes added wear and tear on the clothes. For most of my clothes I prefer the more gentle up and down action.

I was gonna say......

The Whirlpool may have taken longer to get that sock down there, but it did it lol. Pretty cool demo though, Robert. You timed them perfect!
