I finally had the time to tinker with the matching dryer to the Inglis H560 washer I recently acquired. I figured it would a good idea to open it up and give it a good cleaning. I was right - here's what 42 or 43 years of lint look like!

Back part of the cabinet looked like this. I was pleasantly surprised to find a drum light - I figured there should have been one, but I didn't see it until I got it apart.

re: door catch

Same challenge with ours. An inexpensive work-around is to use some velcro at the 11 o'clock position. We have the gripping part on the frame and the fuzzy part on the door. Takes a little practice to use but sure does work on keeping the door closed.
Happy New Year to All!

Major difference in the before and after pics. I never realized how much lint can actually build up in a dryer. I check mine about every 3 or 4 months and clean if necessary.

That is a good plan - I actually remember two house fires on the block where I grew up starting because of lint build up in the dryer! I remember one of the charred, discarded dryers looked just like the one our family had, so I took ours apart for a cleaning just to be on the safe side...

So the belt for the drum just wraps around the whole thing?? Instead of a pulley mounted on the back? Interesting.

Jed -

Earlier dryers from the 50s had a big pulley on the back for the drum drive, but later switched to what you see here. They switched finally to the rearless w/direct drive blower design in 1966 (approximately). This is what they still build to this day.
