This was also my parent's first Kirby, I will always remember this machine. Charlie I couldn't tell from the pictures if this was the orginal sani-emptor or not with the little hole on the back for adding the "sweet air" or not. Terry
First I want to tell that I am so excited about seeing you in just a few weeks! Yea! Yea! Yea! Yea! In case you don't know, I think you are really wonderful so I am thrilled that we will have some time at Ida's.
RE: the sweet aire fill hole, yes, the 510 does have it but when Kirby did the restoration, they removed the red plastic fill hole plug and replaced it with a metal screw. Alas, like many things that have changed and gone by, the "Sweet Aire" is one of them. The sani-emptor did have the cotton pad that fit under the vented metal panel were the sweet aire liquid would have been dropped in.
I guess we have to rely on scented chips or the some other form of air freshner for our old Kirby's unless we save those parts from a time gone by.
Thanks for your post darling and I look forward to seeing you soon!
It is hard to tell the model 510 apart from my 508. Key being the "Sweet Aire" as the 508 does not have that feature. If I get time tomorrow I will post pictures of my Moms 508 which has been redone by Kirby about 5 years ago. Also have a 508 that has not been redone and my mothers looked even worse than the one I will show. It may give viewers a good idea of just how good Kirby's rebuild department work can be. Still hopeing to get my hands on a D80 and D50. Someday!!
Helen my dear you are making me "blush" thanks so much for the nice compliments!! So looking forward to seeing you as well. To bad that they filled in the fill hole with a screw. At any rate the machine did look beautiful. For a substitute I have used the Kirby Oderific. Just putting a couple drops on a cotton ball and place it in the sani emptor. Gives a nice clean smell. Still not as good as "sweet aire" but not bad. Terry
Welcome to the site. You'll really like it here, some really nice folks and a lot of great conversation. See you in a couple of weeks. You want to come to Chicago in February? We are having a vacuum gathering here. Jeff Parker, Fred S., Tania Voight, Morgan Frazier, Mark Thomas, Terry Lattz and, of course, our own Air-way Charlie (aka Helen Lawson). You'll are welcome!
Glad to see you made it and posted, so a big WELCOME! For those of you that don't Marty, he is one the Board of the VCCC and has one of the most stupendous collections. (Just make sure you only post vacuum stuff on the super forum.)
His machines are absolutely pristine and he has them beautifully chonicled in photo albums. If you come to the convention in June, you will meet him and see some of his collection, along with his photos.
Glad you like the 510 and, yes, it is too bad that the original trim is no longer available.
Charlie, Thanks for the nice compliments on the collection. About this Helen Lawson, I'm picturing Susan Hayward holding a cigarette and chewing someone out. Am i thinking of who i'm thinking of?
There is nothing I would like more than for you to attend!!!!
The dates are: June 14th to June 17th which is a Thursday-Friday-Saturday event in St. Louis, Missouri. The convention hotel is the Four Points Sheraton at the airport and the number is 1-888-785-4787.
Just remember you need to be a member to attend and the registration fee is probably going to be around $50. The hotel does have a special rate for us. The current President has not notified the club of the registration fee or the agenda, but if you plan to attend, I will let you know in advance.
If you would like information on joining, please let me know. But, if you can attend, I think you would get a real kick out of the whole thing and have a really fun time. Please consider being there.
The only thing that comes out of a Helen Lawson show is Helen Lawson and that's ME baby. Oh, I know all about her---you straightened her up. Neely doesn't have that HARD core. Well, I don't need pills and dope. In this business they come at you from left, right and below the belt. I'm a barracuda.
Now give me a pen to sign the contracts and not one of those lousy bawlpoints.
Charlie,
Pete or anyone from here who is not a member can attend as a guest of another member, its been done before.
All they have to do is pay the registration fee and have a member "host"
