After having lost momentum for a couple of weeks, we kicked back into high gear again this weekend. The counter tops had finally arrived! After they were installed, the plumbing had to be done - nothing had been installed to date. The kitchen centre was a bit challenging because I wanted to keep the original air gap for the washer/dryer drain. We had a plumber do this and it was worth it. We did run into a leakage issue with the faucet - 52 years did a number on the O-rings and I was paranoid they could not be replaced. Thank goodness I was wrong. The original kitchen centre faucet is now working perfectly!
Here's a photo of the overall kitchen (it's pretty bad - it was getting late after having spent the day relocating kitchen items into the new cupboards...)

New dining room fixture candidate

I can't believe that I did still have the retractable cord fixture that I thought had been abandoned in my former house. I was digging in the basement for some tools and I found it in a box that had been in storage in a neighbor's basement and got moved to Ogden this summer. Apparently I had told this neighbor, "Grab anything that looks vintage" when I sold the house and he nabbed this and a few other surprises!
It may be a bit small, but I think it's a better 'fit' for the atomic look I am trying for...

Still to do

I still have to get the washer/dryer back together and installed - I still have issues with it (I'll be posting more about that in the Imperial Forum); we still need to do some trim installation; the entry of the house now needs repainting due to dings and dents; and I seem to be having some drainage issues with the defrost water in the LW11 wall fridge.
But geez is it ever nice to have a working kitchen again!
I was definitely channeling Donna Reed.... lol

Paul your new kitchen is beautiful!! I would say that you guys have really been busy. You should be so proud as you have done a fantastic job!!

Thanks!! It has been great getting your feedback!
We are very pleased, what can I say! It really is a great feeling of accomplishment to know we did so much of it ourselves.

I do have it, but it's in the cupboard. WHAT?!?!
Seriously, I am basking in the acres of counter space that I have never had in a kitchen before.
I am planning a slideshow with lots of turquoise goodies - I will definitely be posting the link to that when it's done.

Thank you!!

David - It's come a long way from an ad in the local paper hasn't it?? I should send a picture to the person I bought it from!

I am kind of surprised at how well the looks blended myself. Damn, I got lucky!!

Oh, and I had to stop hubby from smashing a champagne bottle over the All-In-One unit... lol

Paul, that's a stunning job!

Have you considered other paint colors for the kitchen? The turquoise and steel look so amazing, here are a few others for comparison.. the first is a neutral (gray):

You know...

I was actually thinking that the yellow was a tad bright... I wanted a typical 50's colour as a background and I had gotten used to the yellow accents in the old kitchen with the turquoise refrigerator I had then. That orange tone does look good... Maybe in the summer when I am willing to even think about doing more handy work - after building the garage last summer and the kitchen now, I think I need a break!

Paul:

The pull-down fixture is a big improvement over the Colonial one, but it's too small for the space. I have two suggestions: 1) Hang the pull-down fixture for a while until you find just the right-styled and right-scaled fixture to go in its place. 2) When that happens, email me and tell me how much you'd like to get for the pull-down fixture; it's the right scale for a space of mine.

Great job!

Deal!

Sandy, I was thinking the same thing - I can use the smaller fixture (might even knock the table leaves down to make it more proportional to the fixture) until I can find a larger one.
I will definitely let you know when that happens!!

I was perusing some old home decor books and I found a kitchen/dinette with the perfect fixture - 3 upturned aluminum cones with a disc reflector above... Oh, and you should see the Apex washer and ironer in that picture!

The church my cousin belongs to in MN has those kind of light fixtures described in Post #331942, the church was built in 1959. I think something like that would look terrific in your dining area.
