I've been plotting for a few weeks to freshen up my kitchen. I thought I'd show off my work to those here who can appreciate it. The kitchen counters and cabinets are all original from 1964. Today I scrubbed the counters then waxed them along with the chrome trim and re-worked the entire area with an accenting of red. I really love the contrast against the all white cabinets. Here are my pictures.

Love...

...the laminex, takes me back to my aunts in a flash!

Now, clear those work tops....can't cook anything with all those 'accents' cluttering them up.....

Looks good

I went with a white and red color scheme as well. It sort of happened by accident. I found a vintage dinette I liked and I already had yardage of red vinyl, so I re-upholstered the chairs in the red. So one thing led to another. My cabinets are oak and the countertops speckly grey laminate. (supposed to look like granite) But I've picked up things like some red and white canisters, a white vintage can opener, some red and white towels, red rugs, etc...

I'm likin' it!!!

The red looks good with the white, and the Formica counter tops are very cool. I like the round end of the bar with the shelves below.

Nice job putting it all together!

That really is a classic early 60's kitchen! The red accent pieces look great against the white cabinets, and the curtains fit in very well, too. I love white in a kitchen; it always looks so clean and bright. And while I understand your wanting a refrigerator that more accurately reflects the era of the room, I think stainless steel appliances are a nice "neutral" that work well in almost any color scheme. You've found cool vintage small appliances---love that electric can opener/knife sharpener.

Great job with the refreshening, and thanks for sharing your photos with us. Enjoy your kitchen!

Excellent Kitchen!

Looks wonderful! Nice and bright, too. I love the hardware, I love the suspended open shelves over the bar, and I love the jalousie-windowed back door. Congratulations on a true vintage kitchen!
