The Maytag Dishwasher Big Blue Binder

I would like to share with you a quick look at my homemade Maytag dishwasher encyclopedia. I collected some booklets over the years.(some in English, some in French). I bought some here on this website. Downloaded them, printed them and made myself a pretty complete historical book of the Maytag dishwashers, up to right before they introduced the 3 rack model. Hope you enjoy.

That looks like it would be a great read! I love Maytag dishwashers, especially the reverse racks. I'm very fortunate to have my Great Grandma's Maytag in my kitchen. The one of the 14th picture looks interesting, I didn't know that Maytag made a fully electronic reverse rack. As far as I knew, the TOL model was rapid advance push button.

The fully electronic model (reverse rack) is the WU1000, then they also made the WU1005 and in deco-white EWU1005. These were the last series of reverse rack machines. That was a sad day for me.

My grandparents had the electronic reverse rack similar to the fourth picture. It had the eight buttons minus the time readout where instead it had Wash-Rinse-Dry indicators. Looking back, it's amazing to me that they had that and their Lady Kenmore with the completely electronic panel, and those machines were from the 80s. All our appliances were fairly new but had all cheaper mechanical controls. I still remind them everyday how mad it makes me that they traded the still running LK for a GE that now sounds like a freight train.

After reading this and searching the ads last night...

I finally got an all-pushbutton Maytag this afternoon!

 

Not a washer but a 1976 WU-601 that I got for $25. It needs to have it's front panels replaced/repaired as holes were drilled in it to add wood panels. Maybe I'll just fill the holes and repaint them. The inside is still in good condition. I haven't tested it yet.

A request

Would you consider, as many of us with extensive appliance literature collections have, lending some of this marvelous collection to the Webmaster to scan into Ephemera? I'd love to see some close-ups of a lot of your brochures, especially the "Bristles of Water" first ever Maytag dishwasher. It is one of my favorite all-time appliances.

I always thought people here tend to look down with distain at Maytag dishwashers. Glad to see some Maytag interest in their dishwashers. They have always been a favorite of ours.

Those probably have to be the best implementation of a VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) in a Dishwasher, in all honesty. In trumps the GE 2x00 series, for sure (and the earlier Jenn-Air models, such as the one member "bwoods" owns). 

 

Would it be at all possible, for AW.org thread-photo-hoarders, such as myself, to have some photos of that magnificent Digital MT dishwasher? (Especially that control. Beautiful!)

I always thought that the Maytag Reverse Rack was the most innovative design, when I was growing up in the 70's. Just the fact that you could put tall items in both racks.
I had a group of friends on my street, in the mid-70's, we used to hang out at one the kids house. His parents had the Golden Harvest trifecta ( Maytag washer A606, Dryer D606 and the portable dishwasher WC400 ) Whenever I had a chance to be alone in the kitchen, where all the appliances were, I opened the door of the dishwasher and marveled at that racking system.
At my house, we had the GE Potscrubber. A good dishwasher, but I found the racks so flimsy looking.

Later on, when I moved out to my own place, I got a vintage Top Loading Inglis dishwasher, in coppertone. A year later, an avocado green WC401 pops up in the window of the used appliance store, next to my appartment. I went in, and bought it on the spot. My life dream was now fullfilled. I had to let it go 8 years later, when we bought house, and everyone told me you can't put an old dishwasher in a new house.
I still miss that machine. But I've been doing well with my Bosch dishwasher.
My binder is like my bible, in my bedside table. LOL
