The most Christmassy gifts come from General Electric each year

Meant to post this before Christmas but got busy.

Many people remember the 1960s stop-action animated Rudolph Christmas special. They probably showed it again this year.

In 1964, it debuted as "The General Electric Fantasy Theater" with special commercials featuring GE small appliances, and a spread in Life magazine also using the Rudolph characters. It's all very charming and a lot of fun to see how many of those home appliances still seem familiar!

Thanks for finding that.

We owned all but the High Domed Skillet and the Shoe Polisher.

We were a huge GE family. If only we knew then to hang on to those appliances.

Those Toaster ovens were really good. I can't imagine how many Baked Potatoes my Mom made in ours. And the standard meal in our house 3-4 times a week was a Broiled Steak, Salad and Baked Potato with Seabrook Farms Creamed Spinach in a Boil in Bag.

Then all the dishes were washed in the Pull out Princess BowTie. And the clothes were washed in one of the First V-12 Washer.

What a shame GE has dropped all that quality.

Was it Rudolph, or Frosty, where the commercial was Santa riding a Norelco razor?

Norelco was a heavy advertiser for Rudolph, probably after these initial years... I remember the Norelco ads where the name was changed to "Noelco" and I think they even used the elves from Rudolph.

I  remember the "Norelco" commercials.  I felt  cheated  when I realized there would be no GE small appliance, eye candy.
