How is that on cleaning anyway? I have heard mixed reviews. A former Pres of the vac club told not to even bother buying one as he felt they did not clean that well. I have never operated one so I have no idea how the perform.

Singer's 4-wheel adjustment

Not sure how many models they featured this on, but this is the last model to feature it, 1975 model U-59.

the wheels are attached to the bottom plate? the old metal singer i saw, i couldnt figure out how the wheels adjusted. that adjustment system looks treacherous.

Charlie, I've only used the Fairfax a couple of times when I got it and it worked quite well. The power nozzle is the exact same one as the Hoover Celebrity including the brushroll with the beater bars.

Charlie, your vacs are beautiful, was that the condition of the 1205 powerhead when you found it? The whole machine is beautiful. The PN that came with mine looks like it was used to lift junk cars in to a crusher!

The 1205 came from a fellow airline employee. It was her mother in law's vac. It reeked of smoke when I got it. I let it run outside with no bag for about 1/2 hour every day for nearly a week and now it seems to be smokeless in terms of odor.

The machine was in very good condition. I took it apart and cleaned everything and polished all parts with a number of different polishing agents, including the dusting brush, crevice tool and floor/rug tool.

The brushroll and belt were replaced with Lux genuine parts. The metal top of the P/N went through the dishwasher and was then polished with Flitz. After that, it was polished with a light coating of neutral shoe polish. The bumpers were wiped with lacquer thinner on a washcloth that removed all paint from bumping woodwork.

I polished the main body with metal polish and then car wax that is a "color back" type to enhance the turquoise. It did come out really nice but the original owner had taken very good care of this vacuum. I have the owner's manual and the manual for the power nozzle as well--it was an additional option at the time.

It is spotless inside and outside. I have thought of ebaying it several times but I can't ever bring myself to let this beauty go. It is truly complete with wands and attachments and probably will remain a "keeper". Thanks for your nice comments about it!

Oh no, you must keep this. It's one of my favorite styles from Lux and this is a rare gem. Fred also has a beautiful one in his collection as well, we used it when I was out there last fall. I found mine at an estate sale here in town, it's in dire need of a bath and polish but it runs well.

Air Way Charlie-Cool vacs-I have an Air-Way Sani-Clean-got it as a trade in toward a TriStar.The little machine works great-Will have to try your filtrete bags in it.Those Filtrete bags for the Air-Ways are are BIG improvement-Twice the airflow-Biard meter reading of 6 with the Filtrete bag-reading of 3 with the paper AirWay bag.Yes I have one of those AirWay 88-beautiful machine.I like the attachments with that one BETTER than the ones AirWay provides at present.I use the tools with my new AirWay machines.Also like the shots of the AirWay SaniClean stuck to the wall-A Royal dealer used to do that with the Royal Canister vac.Good example of the laws of physics!
Petek: have a Fairfax like the one you have pictured-mine doesn't have a powernozzle-just the machine and hose.A vac dealer gave it to me along with an electra-Pure canister that also just the hose.He got both machines as trade ins toward other vacs.I also have an older Fairfax that I got from the Rainbow dealer here-even has an unusual floor polisher attachment-you put the Fairfax powerdome on top of it-the motor shaft runs the brush.The attachment has an upright handle.
Hoover1060That Singer "Twin fan" upright is most unusual-how well does it perform?I think Bissel makes a broom vac that has a twin fan something like the Singer-And Oreck makes a "Twin Stack" upright that has twin fans-each "stack" from the fans feeds into the bag.Any other "twin fan" machines out there?

Singer Twin-fan

Another cleaner that was years ahead of its time. The original version came out in 1949, a streamlined machine that was more flash than substance, but cool features.
This design dates from 1962 and the Singer U41. Overall its not a bad cleaner, the tended to hug the carpets too much and they were LOUD(They sound very much like a Hoover Concept One or Elite)
The 60's models had a Hoover Convertible type 2 position rug aduster, and in the 70's they used the system pictured on their top models.
Their downside is their ductwork was small, thet clogged easy, and they weren't all that well made.
Power-wise the Singers had more zip than either the Hoover Convertibles or Eurekas of their time.
