Okay, it's a 1-18 one day, and then a center-timer Maytag the next.

It was parked out by the dumpster at work--I couldn't leave it!!

My boss let me cart it home in her truck. And, you know the story--plugged it in, and everything works perfectly.

Why do people throw these things away?

The 10-minute regular cycle and 12-lb capacity tells me that it's an older machine, but I'll post photos this weekend. The label that would otherwise state the model and serial number is worn off.

The Frigidaire is jealous. But they look so nice by each other!! :-D

Ok what a find

I love Maytags, with the "cyclopse" timer etc. I have two of them and new ones as well, but love the older mine are 33 years old now! Run like they were just unpackaged. Yes I have done some overhauling but it is easy and so much fun to do the maiden wash!

I finally found an imprint of the model number (and if the camera will COOPERATE, I'll post a pic tonight!). I wonder what year this is?

This machine is hysterical because it's almost silent, and you can all but put a brick and a sock in the tub and it still won't go out of balance.

While it's low on drama, the control panel is high on chic, so it's fun and loved :-D

Ruh-roh...don't let "Harvest Gold Greg" see this beauty or this machine will be zapped to Omaha faster than you can twitch your nose, Sammy baby! ;-)

That is a fun machine and the same model Roger has. Don has an older version of a machine like this that looks stunning in turquoise!

You now officially have a collection! Can't wait to see it.

Harvest Gold

the top and lid of the old "A"line Maytags were made of baked on porcelain on steel whereas the front and sides were painted on.That's why the front may be more worn than the top and lid.

Thanks, Steve and Venus! :-D

Yes, I'm glad it followed me home, because the 1-18 is fun, but you have to have more than one machine around to make it a wash-in :-P

Thanks for the info on the paint/porcelian, Chuck. That would explain the odd disparity between the top and the sides. It sure illustrates the durability of porcelain!

So, Scott, Greg's favorite color is harvest gold? :-) That's cool--I like the color when it's still intact, as on our apartment's GE appliances. (Plus, the GE harvest gold was a tad lighter than Maytag's take on it--this machine's more toward the dark yellow/orange end of the spectrum.) I mentioned the "ick-tastic" aspect mainly because, if you saw it in person, you'd see how awful the cabinet looks compared to the top. (This camera is rather low-resolution and tends to make things look better than they really do. I'm keeping it for personal portraits down the road :-P lol).

Thanks, everyone!!

Nate, it's become kind of a joke, because for a while, each time he'd come across a machine he'd been looking for, it would be in harvest gold! Maytag probably did some of the better paint jobs in those days, so I wonder if maybe it had spent some time outside or whatever.

So you have a harvest gold GE kitchen! I bet you have the same d/w my mom has in Green Valley. She painted it a sort of sand color to match the cabinets which she'd also painted. She had the original harvest gold GE range up til just a year or two ago which, despite its 25 plus years was a much better range than she had that had come in the other house 'til I bought her a new one for that house. I think the next gift will be a new d/w for Green Valley.
