The new agitator toploader from Whirlpool arrived in my basment this morning!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Jaime:
if you can show me which agitator, maybe I have a spare->you could probably pick it up when you get these Kemores.

Or am I seeing this wrong?

Luigi, based on Jamie's explanation, the spray rinse happens after the deep rinse. I had the exact same thought. Unless that spray rinse is abbreviated to minimize softner removal from fibers.

Although you might want to think twice before you put an uber sized vane KitchenAid agitator in the washer...it may not be able to handle the extra drag and you have to remember that the motor is only 1/4 hp not a full half hp. I would betcha that the 5 vane Surgilator with the 10 vane lint filter top would do a fabulous job in that machine.
Looking forward to more vids!

KitchenAid agitator... Not gonna happen! If I had a 5-vane Surgilator I would try it! lol

I think the spray rinse after the deep rinse was done out of shear stupidity. If it was done before the deep rinse, I might use it. Maybe that's why they did it. Just to piss me off. :P

Spray after Deep

I suppose the spray rinse after the deep rinse is designed for an 'allergy rinse' condition and softener probably wouldn't be used here if someone was allergic to detergents and such.

Just a guess...

Malcolm

( I too would like to see more videos )

I loved the straight vane that I put in my WP, but it really sucked @ rollover on large loads...but way more fun to watch. The lint trap was really cool. Yeah, that's why I called it "King" KA - I put it in my 3 speed WP, was a slosh fest! I was afraid to put any clothes in with it!

I put the same agiator that danmantn is talking about in the maytag direct drive i used to have and it did a good job but i would never over load. i was able to wash 8 full size bath towels at one time in it with out anything else in it and it had great rollover. and boy did it grab the lint. i saw a reduction in the amount of lint i would remove from the dryer.

This new design does have some potential over the DD "blender Washers"Yes-more I watch and hear the video-like the long sure strokes and the sound.Any way we can get a video of the motor and drive system in this machine while its in action-that would be very interesting.I am figuring WP has gone to Kevlar grooved belts for this design-such belts are used in small appliances, power tools and some automotive uses.Such belts will easily last the life of the machine.A good thing.I may even investigate buying one of these newer machines.

I really think it is very close to sounding very much like the original belt drive WP and KM. It is so nice that is has a much faster spin speed.
Jamie if you get a chance, can you record it draining and doing a high speed spin?
Thanks
I think this is a very cool washer! Thanks for sharing.

I just got the Kenmore version of this washer a few days ago and so far I really like it. Underneath it looks like a very simple drive system. Also looks easy to service, even easier than my old direct drive Whirlpool.

One thing for sure, its much quieter than a direct drive Whirlpool. I guess time will tell if this design will be as reliable as the previous ones.

Here ya go Bob!

A video of the dual action agitator that came with the machine. It's on the large water level (3rd of 4).

It looks like some versions of this machine have been around for year or two as Kenmores and Maytags and Whirlpools.
The ones with the autofil feature seem to have mixed reviews and I see yours does not have that feature.
I have also seen comments on long cycle times.
Have you noticed that the time to complete a load of wash is significantly longer than older top loaders like the direct drive machines ?

All of the other versions of this machine, with the autofill, are HE impeller machines. I have one of those too, labeled Whirlpool Cabrio though it's not a true Cabrio. The stores around me have had this machine for only a couple of months now. The fill does take longer as it restricts water flow for the spray rinses. To make the machine simpler, Whirlpool put on valves that restrict the flow of water constantly making the fill take a little longer, but not much. The machine does use use the tub break during any of the spin cycles to stop the tub either, it allows the tub to coast to a stop. The lid locks as soon as the machine is started and unlocks at the end of the cycle or when all parts have stopped moving if the machine is paused. (This can take a couple of minutes if the machine was spinning.) Other than that, the machine doesn't really take noticeably longer. Maybe 5-7 minutes longer overall. The machine takes less time than a normal washer if the single spray rinse is used.

Here's a video of the machine doing it's full 700 RPM spin with a proper Whirlpool agitator!

The sole survivor

In the march to top loader extinction, Whirlpool has beat the odds. Congratulations to the brains behind it.

This is a wonderful machine, Jaime, and I'm so happy to get a chance to see it. Loved how you immediately installed a proper agitator. Funny

And Bob, I could have sworn I was listening to a unimatic too; for me the sounds are identical, minus the chugging.

How cool is that: Whirlpool gives a memorial hug to her powerful sister who did not survive.

So cool and evolved--the multiple agitation strokes in succession.

Is this single spray a full spray rinse cycle like the older Resource models had? If you get a chance would you describe the rinsing sequences/options? Thank you.[this post was last edited: 12/27/2010-11:24]

Who would have thunk that this is a Whirlpool when it reeks GE Hydro Wave?
I love the short and long strokes on this machine.
I've always wanted to see this feature in a Kenmore but Whirlpool took the lead!

i had the portable version of the "world washer" years ago, very good machine i loved it, very fast spin, although someone described the noise of the motor as the sound of a zipper going up and down, i agree i sounds different.

Very nice videos!
I love the sound of the motor when the spin takes off!
Thanks for sharing.

Jamie, thanks for taking and sharing the vids with us. Looks like a winner. Happy New Year. arthur

KitchenAid

Yes indeed! The softener dispenser is a from a KitchenAid! Most beautiful dispenser award in my book! Here is a pic of it and the machine's new agitator which I got for Christmas from my dad!

Spin Spray Rinsing

I would like to see a short video of the spin-spray rinsing system.  That is the rinsing default if softener is not used.
