It appears the new dryers with model number that begin with the letters WED or WGD, many have stainless steel or cold roll steel drums. No mention of dura-white coating. Also, it appears the TOL, WD5900 has a slower tumbling speed for the delicate temp cycle. :-)

LOL Toggle

Our KA has green/blue tint also on the back of the drum, jeans? or those spruce green sheets i had to have a few years ago? anyway it does not rub off on my whites. Toggle your right though that Drum coating for some reason does pick up blue and green. But the KA, and i would imagine the kenmore and WP, do have huge drums and turn out work clothes dockers and polo's that look like they have been ironed. Best darn green highlighted white drum dryer I have ever owned. alr2903

I recently visited friends who had a 9 y/o Whirlpool dryer. Lots of jeans washed in that house. It had a pretty blue color to the drum bulkhead, drum, as well as the dryer door where things would tumble against it. I thought of Toggle immediately and kinda got queasy in my tummy too. Thus far my 1994 Maytag DC dryer looks almost new inside, but I only wash/dry jeans about once a month or so, mostly winter time and about every 6-8 weeks in the summer.

Powder-Coat staining is so common with these machines. I love the big drums but I always thought crawling up onto the door to reach the deepest recesses of the drum was a bit of a pain - especially in a small laundry room. I recently picked up a KitchenAid dryer with the side-swing door (only a small amount of indigo staining on the white drum) and it was really nice to have the door out of the way...

I noticed tonight WP is still offering one side-swing door with the thermostatic dry control and the 3 temps in the timer. It appears to now have a stainless steel drum.

Whirlpool dryers

I was just checking the Whirlpool website and I didn't see anything about a SS drum. Also I only noticed the BOL has the side swing door. A few years ago I remember they offered a TOL dryer with side swing door option.

Peter, you have to look at the detailed specs of each WEW dryer to see which ones have the stell drums. And you're look too BOL, that small side-sing isn't the one I'm talking about.

I tell you I gave away a WP dryer that came with my house because of the staining.

Boy was I shocked to find a GE about 3 years ago with a SS drum. I kinda like their belt safety switch also that shuts off the motor [and thereby the heat] should the belt pop.

Whirlpool dryer

Its been a few months that I have had my Whirlpool dryer and I do love it. She is very fast..the dryer finishes before the washer is done. So far I have not encountered the dreaded discoloring of the drum and the dryer back. But then again I havent bought any new jeans lately. I did look at the new models that came out and I will have to say that I do like them but I wouldnt trade what I have. Of all the dryers that I have A Maytag, Frigidaire and a GE the Whirlpool is my fastest dryer. And even though the GE moves 180 cfm and the Maytag at 220 and the Frigidaire at 200 cfm ...The Whirlpool with the 150 cfm airflow and the horseshoe airflow does cruise along. I do know that the Maytag is believe it or not the slowest of the 4 dryers. I dont have much of an exhaust maybe 5 feet at that. It just seems that the Whirlpool uses the airflow and energy much more efficently I think.

Whirlpool Dryer!!

My mother has this same Whirlpool dryer she bought almost 2 years ago. It's a very good dryer. She was going to buy the matching washer after her 10 year old direct drive Whirlpool went with a bad transmission. But we discussed it and last year she went for the Frigidaire FL with the square door. She likes it and is glad to have a front loader now. With a full load of clothes from the Frigidaire the Whirlpool will dry it completely in about 35 minutes. She has the gas version and it's a real performer.
