hi! I was doing online searching and I stumbled upon this lovely site with people who know a lot more about appliances than me.

I am trying to help a friend. Three of the four burners don't work anymore (I gather they may just be disconnected - that's what I hope, anyway).

I figured, I need to find out the model number first, before I know who to call. But, I can't lift it out. I did pull out the drawers under, and I tried to take photos ( also - sorry I'm a slob). I didn't see a model number. It's probably 1968 or so.

Does anyone know a way to find out?

Thanks in advance.

RB-130L from 1967-68. Basic Frigidaire 32" cooktop. There's a good chance you have a burnt-off wire as GM Frigidaire was notorious for crappy crimp on terminals.

Wow, thanks, people!!

So, I'll look at that page about how to replace burners just in case (I don't know what the "burner" is yet ... I'll do a search) ... however, I'd probably rather hire someone to fix this, even if it's a wire issue. (Unless it's like unjamming a copier. That level, I could do.)

Is it hard to find repairpeople for these? Could a regular electrician do it?

Oh, it's the same as the coil then? Got it.

Thanks!!

We are in Orange County, in California. Does anyone happen to know anyone who works on these? (I have a place I can call - Savon Appliances in Burbank - they have a bunch of gorgeous retro stoves there, check out the website if you-all have a minute.)

And again, thanks so much!

Frigidaire radiant tube or mono tube surface elements

Frigidaire use this type of element from the early 50s to the end of their making electric ranges about 1980, they were always wired in directly. There is no receptacle to worry about.

The element pivots up and you remove the trim ring. There’s two Phillips head screws. If you remove those, the entire burner comes off in your hand. There are either two or three wires attached to the burner, depending on the age of the cooktop after about 1960. They were all two wire burners

As mentioned by Steve, one of the most common problems is the wires, just simply fatigue from the element flexing when people clean it and break off near the terminals on the element that’s pretty easy to fix.

The element itself can fail internally and must be replaced you may also have a bad switch or bad wires at the switch.

The model number for this cooktop is under underneath the element when you lift out the burner tray under the element it’s usually under one of the rear element. You’ll see a little aluminum tag that has the model number of the cooktop embossed into it.

At this point the model number really is not important because you can’t officially get any parts for these units from the official parts sources.

Try to find somebody with gray hair that is used to working on electric stoves. This should be easy for them to fix. You may have to track down some parts, however if needed.
