The New Year's Off to a Great Start

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

This is the only model I have ever seen the word PREMIER on the console......I think its near the beginning of GE's production of gas dryers.......

V14 Logo and water level contol, with MiniBasket setting. GE didnt really change the size of its tub for many years, only the way they noted it,,,,,V12 V14 and 16lb.......

The wash/spin speed and temp controls are independent of each other, love that I can wash on slow but spin on fast.......thats a great combo that is not always presettable on other ordinary washers.........according to GE sales literature!

Lasty, the lid instructions, rather detailed on this model. Its interesting and informative to read all this, helps pass the time while Im waiting for the tub to fill for the next load!..........

Pushbuttons = TOL

Rich, your Frigidaires are beautiful. I remember a lot of 'em from that era, but never the pushbutton models. They just shout '60s! Enjoy, and have a great new year.

Duh!

Guys and Gals,

By now y'all must know that I'm a huge fan of vintage GE's and this set is just wonderful, but isn't it funny how long it took GE designers and engineers to figure out that you didn't want the panel lights on TOL models shining in the users' eyes but focused down, somehow on the controls????

Seems like it took them all the way to 1968 to finally figure that one out!

Hey Jimmy - that is a very nice GE set you have there - those anodized panels look to be in wonderful shape. Did either machine require any help - or were they found minty fresh like that?

Ben

That washer sure looks familiar Jimmy. I still have one the same year and model, that I got from you. Have had it about 4 years now. Time flys! Mine has the Suds Saver though. Very nice set you have there! Congrats!

Hi Ben, Yes the machines looked great when I found them, but alas only the dryer was operable. The washer had a cracked water valve and the typical malady of a bad outer tub so typical of GE's of this design. In fact after a bad experience of selling a GE set to someone that I thought was still good I never sell a GE anymore without completely disassembling the tub and checking it out. Its a shame that most if not all GE's suffer from outer tub problems eventually. Luckily Ive repaired so many of them I can do it easily and quickly. The other problem with the washer was a marginal tranny that had a very loose agitator arc. By that I mean I could physically take hold of the agitator and move it back and forth about 1/4th of its arc. I had first hoped the spine was worn, but turned out the agitator eccentric internally in the tranny was worn. This is rather unusual for a GE transmission, but I think this one had a lot of use. I just bought another tranny, and here it is New In the Box! Yeah!

Yes Rick, almost the twin of your washer, sans Suds-Saver. Like you I just love my GE's and espcially love the FilterFlo design, hence my club name here........The washer is a wonderful cleaner with the V14 Ramp agitator and its amazing how quiet the dryer is. This dryer still had the big round motor in it and just a few touches here and there that seemed to make it built just a little better and more solid that later models of almost the same design but with just a little bit cheaper parts..........

Rich and Jimmy, great pictures! That '62 Frigidaire set is TO DIE FOR, and the GE set is classy as well. I too like the gold accents on the control panel.

I thought GE transmissions were NLA, as they were nearly impossible to find (standard-capacity moreso than large was what I heard as well) when Jerry called me and said he would gladly give me one for my '77 Dispensall. Was this one leftover stock or new?

Nice Frigidation there Rich!

Gloss gloss gloss as only a Frigidaire could do,I must concede Bendix was never as glossy as a CI by GM!

Jimmy, interesting mark on that GE as "Premier" my uncle was a pretty big architect in Canada and when he designed his dream home he had access to all TOTL stuff not normally available to stores. He put in GE's top laundry pair and they were marked "Talisman" in Canada, I bet you have the US version there for architects and custom builders only!!

"Danemodsandy":

Yep..... I agree with you there. I don't know why manufacturers don't even put lighted consoles on their machines anymore either. I guess it all comes down to economics. I know that when I was a kid, every time I went to Sears with my parents, when we went downstairs to the appliance department, the first thing I would always see is a Lady Kenmore with console light on. And it wasn't just Sears either. I also remember seeing a couple of Wards Signature machines with their lights on as well whenever I went to a Montgomery Wards as well. Lighted consoles attracted traffic to the sales floors back then.

Now, when I go to Sears, I'll be lucky if I even see some cycle indicator lights and a digital countdown timer lit up on a Kenmore Elite. And the last time I went to Sears, I didn't even see THAT if I could recall correctly. They didn't even have the courtesy to have an Oasis hooked up to electrical supply. The last time I saw a lighted console on any machine was 1997-98. And back then, only the TOL Electronic Kenmores (Limited Editions) had them. The next year, they certainly did away with a lighted console on the Catalyst.

"TrainGuy":

Those Frigidaires look AWFULLY nice. I like the way you have those beauties cleaned up and dolled up. They could pass for being showroom new now.

AND

Check out the "Automatic Fabric Softener" Dispenser on top of that Jet Cone Agitator and the silver striping on the cabinets of those machines.

Once again, beautiful machines, TireGuy.
