Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Wow, they are nice Maytags, just Timeless. Someone mentioned in another thread that "maybe the recession" has contributed to folks selling off items they no longer need. I agree. again ... Nice TAGS alr2903

Kevin - love the staged lighting shot. Very cool idea.

Both appear to be in awesome shape. Hopefully they are in just as nice shape mechanically as they are cosmetically.

Are you able to pull the agitator out?

A700 vs A702 question.

The A700 (of which this is a beautiful example) and A702 are very similar. If I am not mistaken, the A702 has a fabric softener dispenser cup that the A700 does not. Are there any other differences?

Wouldn't mind having one myself,
Dave

So much damn envy.....and jealously. Been looking for a pair of these for 2 years now. Hell, I've been trying to find parts for my 702 for a year and a half :(

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

I must agree the Appliance God is smiling down on some of us. That is a gorgeous Maytag set you have there Kevin. Will we be seeing a video anytime soon?

Jim

Your Very Welcome Kevin!!!!

What can I say except that it was an EXCITING adventure YAY!!!Although I'm still not sure who had more FUN,LOL!!
What I will say is LOVE this web-site, (Bless You & Thank You, Robert). Love my Chevy, (Silverado, that is!)AND LOVE THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS!!!!
I'm hearing that once popular song in the back of my mind that goes something like this "Hollywood nites,In those high rolling hills, she was looking so right,in those diamonds and frills"....
Anyone out there in washer-land know (remember) who did this song?? Anyway, almost any excuse will get me to the hills.
But a WASHER? All I can say is this: HAVE WASHER WILL TRAVEL....LOAD IT UP,STRAP IT DOWN,HIT THE HIGHWAY/ROAD, COWBOY! lol...

Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments! I am so very pleased to find this matched set!!

Ben, no I have not tried to pull the agitator out... not sure I want to. Yes I need to inspect both of these before putting them into service, but I'm not exactly sure what to check. Suggestions?

Jim, YES the Appliance Gods have definitely been smiling down on MANY of us here recently!

Kevin ... BEAUTIFUL set; CONGRATULATIONS! :-)

Yes ... you definitely should try to get the agitator out. You might be surprised; it might come out easily.

Were they in service up until recently? Did the owners indicate any problems?

No oil leaks under the washing machine?

Enjoy ... I sure do love my A700S!!

Geoff

Really beautiful Maytags!

Wow - That is one awesome washer/dryer set! How wonderful that the set stayed together all these years and found a good home with you! Another dream set found, it would seem!!

Enjoy them and have fun, Kevin!!

Dave - Volvoguy87....

To asnwer your question about the A700 vs. A702... neither one has a fabric softener cup (in the agitator). Both machines were mechanically and cosmetically the same. However the difference was in the timer, as the 702 had the addition of a "soak" cycle.

1965 was the last year for both the 700 & 702, then the "x06" series (806, etc) was introduced in 1966.

I hope this helped!
Kevin

Corrections

"To answer your question about the A700 vs. A702... neither one has a fabric softener cup (in the agitator)."

Incorrect. 700 didn't have the dispenser cup, but the 702 did. Some additional info: 700 had 2 separate light switches for both the tub and console lights. The 702 triggered the tub light off the lid switch and the timer controlled the light for the console.

"1965 was the last year for both the 700 & 702"

Incorrect. 1963 was the last year for the 700. 1965 was the last year for the 702 (702 only had a 2 year run from 1964-1965).

To Dave (Volvoguy87) and QSD-Dan...

Oops! (my face is RED!) Sorry!... that's what I get for posting before I made 100% sure I have the correct information! I stand corrected! (still blushing....)

I did a quick search and found this.......

Kevin - I see you found the brochure! I never got around to scanning the A700 brochure - so hopefully this works out.

I actually think there might be a typo on this sheet - but per Maytag literature published in 1969, the A700 was produced till 1965. I personally haven't run across an A700 made after 1963, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few out there. I'm guessing it should follow along with the A500 and the A900 and show that production ended in 1964.
