Here is an old picture I took of a rare machine I could have got but passed on. Anyway I kinda wish I had picked it up and tried to restore it after all.

there are a few others I wish I had that were right in front of me, for parts if nothing else. Anyone else have some similar regret?

Is there one of these out there someplace? Seems like I heard of one at least.

Westinghouse Wash&Dry Combination

Around 1958, Yes my Brother Jeff has this machine [ in much better shape ] Our Webmaster Robert rescued it from a Minneapolis basement around 10 years ago.

 

We have two WH WD2 combinations at the museum the better one was found outside Seattle Washing and rescued by Greg in Omaha Ne.

 

The WH combinations like the Maytags are rare because both companies had active programs to get them out of the owners homes when they reported problems with them, both companies would give the customer a set of regular washers and dryers and the customer was left with a washer that did not clean nearly as well.

 

As far as we know these are the only three known WHCs around and there are around 8 or 9 known MTCs around.

The term "picked it up" probably isn't applicable to this machine unless you've been a contestant in The World's Strongest Man competition. 

 

There are functioning machines out there among the membership.  Nate (roto204) in Tucson had a nice colorful one and I helped him move it a few years ago.   I think it's in Justin's (countryford) possession now.

Westinghouse Combo

That is something I have always wanted to see.I think it is like the Westinghouse drycleaner.I saw one of these in a basement in Somerville Mass about ten years ago but the bottom was really rusted.It has a lint filter in the front of the tub that water flows though that is fun to watch.I rescued the owners manual.One thing I would love to see is this machine in operation.

A childless couple who lived across the street from us had a Westinghouse Combo. It was drying. The only thing I remember at the front of the tub was the round inlet for hot air being blown up from the heater box under the tub for the Westinghouse Direct Air Flow Drying. Technology did not exist at the time to make a heat-proof seal to keep water out of the heater box during the wash portion of the operation so it rusted.
