The Right Boil Wash Detergnt...

I've learned in getting my new Miele that Tide HE does not do very well in hotter wash temps, in does a great job in the no heat to very warm water range, but in the hot to sanitize range it begins to act very strangely. If I use the sanitize cycle, it washes for a lot longer and I've noticed that the Tide begins to give off a funny smell, almost as though it's burning... Not very pleasant! I've also noticed it leaves a rather thick residue on the glass of the window after a high temp cycle with no fabric softener even with the extra rinse selected. Is there another non ridiculously expensive detergent that works well on the higher temperature washes? Also, what is a good oxygen bleach to use?

But German (Henkel) Persil is about the best around. Though you pay almost $50.00 a box, the box will last FOREVER, since you only use a little. Since out water here in the States is so much softer than that in Germany, many people use only 1 - 2 TBSP for a 5 KG load, which works out to about the same or less per load than the Tide HE.

Even better, if you reserve the Persil for whites/lights only, or even only for your boil washes, then may never run out!

Though I like the cleaning of both the Megaperls and the original Powder, I must say that the original powder has the best scent I've EVER smelled, save for the scent of 1980's Oxydol!

Tide was designed for Amercian wash cycles and habits, that includes the HE version for front loaders. Though the package states recommended for "Miele", "Asko", "Bosch" and other European frontloaders, am quite sure they mean the quick 140F and below wash cycles American washers are known for.

Persil was designed to work well with the long wash cycles and boil wash temperatures of European front loaders. Everything about Persil from the bleaching action to limescale prevention is tailored to front loaders with built in heaters.

Well, Persil washs very good and even smells good, but it´s high-sudsing!
I alway take a cup of it for boilwash and when the machine starts to spin after mainwash, it suds terrible, even after the first rinse!
I actually use Ariel lichtaktiv (ariel lightaktiv), it cleans well and doesn´t suds too much.

Arbor Vacuum on Packard sells the German Persil. They carry all of the variations imported by Miele.

The Persil products are incredible.

They're really not expensive, when you take into account how little you use (and if you have softer water).

Persil is great for any front loader, though will say it shines with long wash cycles found on the European machines, and is especially great at water temps above 140F.

When I had my first front loader, tried Persil and while the results were fine, nothing much different than Wisk tablets. However in the Miele things are different, can't say know why exactly except for the reasons listed above.

Persil - High Sudsing?

Never had that problem, even with our soft water.

I use the German Persil in my Miele

I have had fabulous results with it! i do alot of boil washes, and really there is nothing better for it. As far as high suds, i have not had that problem, I would also say to try the SA-8 Bio quest, it also fairs well belive it or not.
Shane, you could get some Persil and see how it works for you, I have not been disapointed with it. I love the smell, and I do not have to use oxy clean with it, the detergent has it built into it. My favorate Persil is the big box that says 54 loads, although, you do not need as much as they say on the box.Try it and see what works well for what you have. My machine is only 6 Kilos (13 lbs) so you might need more than a quarter cup, although, it all just depends.Briliant soap all the way around. They even sell it at Starks here where I live. OMG!!! PERSIL!!!!

I just did my first boil wash with Persil and WOW!!! As soon as I opened the box I was hooked! I though Tide Original Powder smelled amazing but I have been MISSING OUT!!! The whites came out just SPARKLING and it was totally worth the 49.75 I paid for it! YAY!!!!

A large load only requires a tablespoon of the detergent when using STPP with it, so it lasts a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time!

It seems like a lot, but it's really not, when you consider how little of it you need to use. The box is humongous, and the dosages we need to use are miniscule compared to what the German directions recommend (German water tends to be much harder).

If the price of Tide had not climbed to ridiculous levels, I'd say Tide's a better deal, but when you factor in performance, quality, and personal taste in fragrance, etc., you begin to see the Persil powder is not always an extravagance.

I can understand the rationale you guys are using, and I'm glad you're able to see it that way. But it's sort of like the price of gas- when an SUV can cost $75-$100 to fill, that's a BIIIIIIG bite all at once. If it lasts a long time, great, but that up-front cost is pretty hefty.

I'm just glad I get the results I do with my 'Tags and Huish detergents (and truly excellent results they are). Compared to the cost of FL's and their HE detergents, I think I'm basically getting away with legalised theft, LOL.

Thing I Don't Like About Tide

Is it does not rinse cleanly, and the scents just won't go away.

Laundry washed in Tide with Bleach even after several subsequent launderings with another detergent and a good dose of STPP, STILL smells like TWB. Oh, and don't get me started on the Simple Pleasures line of detergents. That lavender & rose scent just does not come out of laundry, so one better get used to the scent being around for a long time.

If the scent won't rinse away, this can only mean P&G has developed/is using some sort of chemical that fixes the scent to laundry. Well I don't fancy much of anything left on my laundry after washing. This could also be why so many people report allergic reactions to various versions of Tide.

Tide does have a really good "HE" detergent line called "Tide Professional", which is sold to commercial and insitutional laundries. Have been using the stain removal treatment, which according to the MSDS is nothing more than Tide, and it cleans very well, leaves little or no scent, and makes no suds. P&G claims the product is low foaming for use in HE machines. Like to use it on whites everynow and then for the brightening power of OBAs, which I normally avoid like the plauge.
