The cost of the shipment over the big pond is the problem. That's more expensive than the detergent itself.

One must also consider customs and duty charges. Miele USA surely pays them as will anyone shipping items into or out of the USA. You can just send items and either not correctly identify the contents of a parcel or outright lie, but if the package is opened for inspection...
Used to order items from France all the time, and they would arrive "unsolicted gift", thus no duties; but that was before 9/11/01 and various treaties such as NAFTA.
Thing about laundry products is they are either powder or liquids, both of which are substances that are paid close attention to these days, especially for anything being sent via air.
