When we went live with the new Vacuumland, I created a new forum called the Super Market Forum.

This new forum was meant for posting on-topic items members find interesting on eBay, Craiglist, classified ads, etc as well as thing members might be looking for or to advertise things that they are selling.

So far so good, it appears that this new forum is working out quite well on Vacuumland. So my question is what do the members of automaticwasher.org think about the possibility of creating a similar new forum here? Do you think it would be advantageous to all of us here? Let's discuss how you all feel about this. Thanks everyone.

I Think.....

....It would be great, particularly if the eBay and Cragislist "find" threads could also go on it. Having all that under one forum heading - plus the Super Searchalator - would make it one-stop shopping for collectors!

Hi Robert,

I like the idea of such a forum.

Since we already create threads about interesting things we run across for sale, it's all mixed in with other "Super" forum stuff. I think it would be nice to segregate sale items to a separate forum.

I'm not sure how to address the issue of sales expiring, etc. Maybe it doesn't matter...I often find it interesting to see what items actually sold for (of course you don't get this info with craigslist). But the old listings should naturally fall to the bottom of the forum over time, right?

All in all, I think it would be a very nice feature for AW. Thanks for the opportunity to chime in.

Hi Robert,
I'd love to see this feature on automaticwasher.org also. I think this may be something that should be restricted to paying members, however, lest the site get flooded with people who think they have a captive audience who will not think twice about spending $1000 on a rusty piece of junk - that's what craigslist is for.... LOL

I wish it was here already while I'm here in the hospital (first time in hospital since birth) with pneumonia...ugly stuff. It's fun seeing the stuff other members find online. Nice to know I'm not the only one with a Craigslist/Ebay addiction.

I also think a "Super Market" forum is a really great idea!

Just a preference here, but it would be nice if when the poster clicks the button to create the thread, they'd choose a "wanted or for sale thread" it would add "WANTED" or "SALE" to the thread title.

I agree with others about old or expired ads, links, sale items, but not sure how to adress this, or if it's necessary.

Sounds like this could be a nice addition to the site. I don't think an "expiration date" of any sort is necessary as they will fall off after 100 posts in the index list. Sure there will be older pages you can scroll through, but most people who view the older threads I think would realize that these are out of date.

I too like the idea of a Super Market Forum

Not only would it cluster the posts for sale items under one heading, but it would post fewer threads to the other forums. This would allow the threads in the Imperial section, for example, more time to remain on the active list before dropping off.

Personally, I don't think we need to worry much about when sales expire, etc. this is already happening now, so it wouldn't change if the sale items are all clustered together. In fact, accessing things in the Super Market might remind people to capture pictures for the archive and that sales are of a short term nature.

especially because some offers are "fans only"

Thanks Robert,

Personally I would like that very much, as much of the stuff we are interested in is not of any concern to the regular buyer/seller.

How often have we tried to sell some specialty washer or dryer or other stuff on the usual platforms, only to find "some families" looking for "something to get the job done", quick and easy. (And off it goes, the valuable collector's item, away to some arbitrary family only to be used as their "daily driver").

The other way round: How often have we been looking for this or that special gasket/motor/connector only to be shrugged off by regular readers of regular ebay or craiglist clients who are quickly clicking elsewhere instead of combing through their cellars?

Just my 2 cents.

Help! I'm Already Addicted...

The proposed enhancement would only spiral me further toward the depths of my complete AW addiction. LOL Yes, Yes, Yes - it's a great idea!

Thanks Robert for all you do, and continue doing to improve, enhance, and embellish this site. So many people who never knew there were others, who like themselves, find immense pleasure viewing, using, discussing (albeit sometimes heated), and learning more about vintage appliances.

Much appreciation
John

While an interesting and great idea for items persons/members wish to sell or desire to purchase, links for eBay, CL and other such listings have a time limit. Once the listing expires the link soon after becomes dead and therefore will no longer work. In theory you would end up with archives of posts which may or may not contain pictures of what was being sold, but sooner or later that would be all.

Keep in mind also no matter how the scheme is structured it will be trawled by Google thus anyone searching the Interent using associated keywords will likely bring up the post.

Just my two cents....
