The Thermador

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

we had a waste king with those same lights and the same lock lever,it was an early 70s model, green with stainless inside.it had a timer in which you could not turn, just a start button which was cylindrical.

I think our neighbors had this model

If I remember correctly the top wash arm is connected to the bottom and the lower rack has to go around the post going up. I think this is also the model with two silverware baskets on each front corner of the lower rack. Or maybe I'm thinking of the Waste King model.

Maybe these will answer some of your questions..this machine is waaaaaaaaaaay cool...I even have the manuals that came with it

Thanks Tim!! Really appreciate it. Have never seen thsese cycle sequences. Find it intersting steam is produced to 150 degrees in all cycles. Wonder how this really did with fine china and crystal as well as plastics. My mom just about always used Fine china on our 68 WK because it didn't have3 a 3rd rinse and didn't delay to heat the water to 150 or 155 on that 3rd rinse. She'd only use full cycle (with the above 3rd rinse) when one of us was sick. Me, I always used full cycle--except when the good china & crysral were used. I loved the great drying results. Used to hack me off, mom got into the habbit of using some really nice cups and saucers a lot or something else that required the Fine China Cycle. I remember on the 59 WK, when she did have her china & such in there, she'd move the timer knob until the 2nd rijnse started pumping when it got to the heat delay portion.

Tim, I'm wondering if the machie getting stuck on rinse (I"m assuming the last rinse) has anything to do with a bad thermostat or something related not telling the timer to beging to advance now that the steam temp has been reached. Or does it work as it's spoze to on the cycles which uses a steam pause during the main wash too?

The center moveable dishloop for the top rack, looks like that's what's going horizontally across the back of the top rack, otherwise if that isn't it, that piece is missing.

Bob!, Jimmy..and Toggles

You are right that dishloop rack was laying in the back horizontally so its all there. As far as it not advancing to the last cycle I'm not sure what the problem is...I do think it is a timer issue though because it goes through all the cycles until it gets to the last rinse cycle..it just doesnt shut itself off you have to do it manually If I could get it up and running properly Id probably put it in my kitchen..I have found Timers for it but thier pretty expensive. jimmy you know this could be yours very easily lol....And Toggles I think the guard over the heating element is what makes it generate steam . Hope this answers some of your Questions Tim

WOW!

That is THE THERMADOR STEAM MACHINE!!! The doo-dad on the element is the steam generator. I bought one of those new in the 80's and absolutely adored that machine! Was certainly the best dishwasher that I've EVER owned. It could knock a KitchenAid out of the water! Mark

Did they have an agenda?

Isn't it amazing how one of the lasting effects of having an organization like Consumers Union at work was the total homogenization and mediocritization of American home appliances! They seem to have discouraged all innovation and uniqueness out of the business. Pity there was/is no organization overseeing them and critiqueing what they do and how they do it.

I AGREE!

I have always found Consumers Reports EXTREMLY Biased ... And who are they to say what is good for me? AND what I think is good...I rate things on how long they last in general and where thier made...Im STILL MR BUY AMERICAN!..

How right you are Tim. When they rate a Wizard Citation or a Mont Wards washer above a Kenmore or GE, you know they dont know WTF they are talking about! And they almost always rated a Speed Queen washer and Hotpoints dead last, year after year.

If one "Googles" "steam dishwasher", the patent for the above unit and a few others can be found. Someone has a patent for a newer version of a steam dishwasher said to be an improvement over the Thermador system, and giving better results. IIRC it used some sort of steam injection system, rather than simply "boiling" water on a surface to create steam.

Wouldn't it be cool if somehow a mini-steam boiler, like those used for steam generator irons could be fitted into a dishwasher? Then powerful, hot and dry (over 50psi) steam could be injected or aimed at dishes. That should melt away all but the most stubborn muck! *LOL*
