Spacepig (Jeannine) found it and with the help of Chris (SpiralDasher), that Waste-King Universal dishwasher that surfaced in Indiana has now been recovered and moved, temporarily, to Ohio until I can get back on the road to pick it up!

I didn't think to get the model number, but I am hoping it's one of the early-run models from 1958 or 1959.

The seller didn't have a lot of pictures of the inside of the machine. I was more than pleasantly surprised when I got these from Chris this afternoon! I think I scored a low-mileage machine here...

Added bonus - as the seller was prepping the machine for pickup, they contacted me to let me know that the owners booklet and warranty paperwork had been found. They don't look to have been consulted much at all!

Now the wait begins... When is the snow melted? Is the snow melted yet? Why isn't the snow melting yet?? It's going to a case of cabin fever for me until spring fever takes over and I can get this cool machine!!

Be still my heart. Paul, my memory of our timer dial was the colors were more inline with the two-tone colors of the logo/light rather than the two-tone grey timer dial. I vaguely remember seeing that color scheme in slightly newer versions than this one.

I still think this was a better machine than the O'Keefe & Merrit Dual Drench dishwasher that was in the kitchen when the house was on the parade of homes tour. My dad made an agreement with the guy who bought our old house that he would put that dishwasher in the space in the kitchen where the WK was.

An poingnant side-note, I saw today where my "other mother's house (across the street from us, went up for sale on the market today.

I'm going to have to get a couple of dinner plates, a salad plate, and some of the cereal and fruit bowls out of the cabinet and bring them over to the computer and let the look at the pictures of the inside of the dishwasher and see if they recognize where they got their first baths when they were new.

So couple that with our dishwasher, it's been an emotional time for me.

Congratulations, Paul. The inside looks to be in very good shape and the paperwork is a great bonus! Our first experience with a DW was a WK maybe a year or two older than this one, and I'm not remembering a choice of cycles. I have no memory of the racks, either. I only remember how incredibly loud it was. When the dishwasher was running, both doors to the kitchen were closed.

Looks like quite a find! Will be interesting to see how those racks are going to look full of dishes. Looks like a very unique loading pattern. That wash arm looks like a Maytag jet clean system morphed into a one arm wonder. We will all have to wait and wonder!

A completely different design than the later ones with the dual arms! Will be interested to see how it washes!

Nice!

WOW! a mechanical detergent dispenser! That's a step up from the early ones I've seen. The powerful sprays from those little holes in the wash arm generate quite a bit of foam. After the wash water drains, there is a long spray/drain to kill the suds over the filter.

WasteKing DW

This should be interesting, I have never worked on one this old, there were probably more of these the further west you go.

I do remember seeing a few on the scrap piles years ago, so there must have been a few around.

The detergent dispenser looks like the same one that WK used into the 70s, they usually just allowed the detergent to just wash out as it did not have any real seal on it.

Can't wait to see it washing Paul.

Washcloth

I really just want to take a cloth to that control panel not to mention see/hear it in action. It looks to have so little use. I bet it cleans up beautifully.

Lalapalooza !

To die for: the mint lit, the killer control panel, the "I mean business" BRONZE wash arm--are you kidding me?, the spray rinse, and of course, the window in the door, LOL.

Stop for lunch-- on the way home, only ;'D !

WOWZERS...

CONGRATULATIONS on such a great looking find! That definitely looks like it hadn't been used much! The racks look good, no bubbling or rust, and the inside doesn't seem to have any rust either! The loading pattern on the bottom rack is pretty obvious but I can't imagine bowls fitting on there with big dinner plates in place?
Am I missing something here?

And yes, I think that control panel is going to clean up nicely. I'm reaching for a toothbrush to get at the ribbing in the control panel!
;o)

Again, CONGRATULATIONS on such a neat find!
Did I read your going to put a window in the door!? Now that would be NEAT!
You knows me... I LOVES windows!
;oD

MY FAMILY HAD ONE

OURS WAS OLDER, I THINK 58. IT HAD WHAT WAS THE CLASSIC BOW TIE DIAL, WITH A POINTER.
CAN HARELY WAIT TO SEE AND HEAR THIS ONE RUNNING. CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT FIND. HOPE THIS DOESEN"T MELT LIGHT WEIGHT PLASTICS LIKE OURS DID.
HUGS,
DAVID
