Dan....I owe you one too!!

Dan: You are scaring me more than Rick. I concur with your statements as well. It's that kind of sensibility that will get our nation back on track. <br
However, for those who continue to rant, lick their chops, and wring their hands hoping to extract their "pound of flesh"...put your anger where it can actually be of use. Volunteer for a candidate's campaign, political action committee, or your own political party. Verbal assasination of elected officials on a vintage appliance forum ends up being nothing but bandwith fluff.

I help out the democratic party in Ohio, by knocking on doors, making phone calls, putting up signs, ect. Don't do much in Indiana, as we are 65% republican, while Ohio is a swing state
So I am not "all blow and no go"
The wedge issue that is used by the republican party of gay civil rights does make me VERY angry however. I don't think you understand Venus. I think you would have to "be there" in order to understand. At any rate, I am all for making this country the best place to be for all of us. I also think that "balance" in government is the best way. That goes for either party in power. Keeps them on their toes, and keeps them working for the people, instead of themselves.

Good for you Rick!

Volunteering for causes that you feel passionate about is not only beneficial, but makes you a working part of the governmental process <br
Your point about anger is well taken. However, I have to respectfully disagree about the fact that I would have to "be there" to understand this situation. Because I am not gay, black, or disabled, does not make me any less sympathetic to the causes of these groups. This taken into account, does it mean that you cannot fathom the discrimination I have felt in the workplace because I am female? I was actually passed up for a promotion that I was well-qualified for because (as the Manager said), "You will probably get married and have kids....". While I have not had physical violence and hatred thrown in my direction, the subtle forms of discrimination are just as damaging. The EEOC guarantees that no one will be discriminated against in the workplace, but we all know corporations can skirt around compliance <br
I abhor injustice of any kind. All Americans deserve to be treated equally and fairly under the laws of our Constitution; no more and no less. Perhaps as the balance in government becomes more equitable, we will get back to what our founding fathers mapped out for our great nation <br
I still love ya! <br

Good for ALL of us who have contributed and continue to contribute to actually Improving our society. Some of us contribute by simply bringing forth the truth and educating people. Even those who are afraid of the truth <br
In our ever more 'comfi' living environs in the U.S. it can get too convenient for some, including myself, to think "I will let someone else do that". It is that kind of thinking that lets some parties get away with the most hideous of behavior

It is amazing how republican talk the talk but don't walk the walk. Well that is obvious, and that is why repubs are out in the street now where they belong. <br
Jr. before with his lame Texas phrases when he thought he could get away with it- "Bring it on"(must have been all that cocaine) LOL. Now suddenly hes the 'Deer in the Headlights' and suddenly ..."we should WORK together" , right <br
Reminds me of high school in Waukesha, WI, which is a republican cesspool, and some of the kids. Have no problems cheating and calling names for the sake of demeaning people and hopefully building up their own sense of self. Its hollow though. After you realize these kids are probably brought up in that kind of household that enforces this kind of pointless competition, you kind of feel sorry for them. <br
As far as John McCain, initially I was impressed with his credentials, but, he is sooooo 2 faced.
Hope for he runs for President on the republican ticket ;o <br
Meanwhile we need to push for completely transparent elections. The voting machines should not be owned by a private company. <br <br
OK, Off to post another washer pic <br <br <br <br

"the subtle forms of discrimination are just as damaging"... <br
Really <br
Silly me <br
Well, if I have a choice between reliving being cracked across the head with a crowbar, being slammed into a plate glass window, and having twenty thousand dollars worth of dental work, and the last tongue-lashing I had from my boss, I'll be sure to remember that, when selecting my particular brand of poison...

I voted Demo.....

"Clinton did nothing wrong. Actually, the Impeachment attempt validified his actions because the impeachment attempt failed, Americans may be slow, but they are not stupid." <br <br
....but Clinton DID do something wrong,he lied under oath. That's pretty serious in my mind. Impeaching Bush will do nothing but waste time and money. We need to work on getting this country back on track, and working out the problems overseas,NOT more arguing "he said, she said".

Would love to hear the story

Oxydolfan1 <br
You stopped too soon. If you are going to make your point, make it a complete one.

LOL!!

Jason.. <br <br
This is the proverbial shit hitting the proverbial fan. At this point I really don't take any side (repub, dem, whatever). I just want the USA to get better or I'm moving to England LO <br
Believe me all the time Georges puppet Tony is in charge you may want to reconsider....... <br

Hey Venu <br
I will agree that discrimanation of any kind should not be tolerated.
However, I will have to agree to disagree with you on the issue of all discrimination being the same. <br
Work place discrimination is from 9 to 5
Any civil rights discrimination starts at birth and ends at death <br
I had to leave my parents house at 17, because my father did not like who I was. He beat the shit out of me because he knew I had a boyfriend.
I left the house for the last time with my face a bloody mess. Did not have anywhere to go, and left with only the clothes I was wearing
So you see, it's really not the same. <br
Love you too! <
Ric <br <br

I don't think the Democrats are going to go down the line of impeachment for Bush, but they are going to make life difficult for him. And why not. Impeachment wouldn't do anything much for them, but they can achieve quite a bit without going that far down the route.

Rick <br
I am so sorry. That is such a tragedy. I would hope that most parents today would unconditionally love their children. I have told mine on many occasions that I would love them no matter what. Many of today's fathers are more sensitive and in tune with their kids, and hopefully more accepting. If your child turns out to be a decent, respectful person who contributes positively to society, it should not matter who they choose to make their life with <br
I may not have lived through your violence, but I understand that you have been wronged <br
A big hug <br

Retromom, I'm SO not interested in turning this into another riot scene (I calculate I've probably used up about three of those already, between the anti-smoking lobby, the lost soldiers of the Confederacy, and those who think I am to the left of Chairman Mao, lol! <br
Look, I'm well aware that people are sick unto death of political squabbling, family members at war, conspiracy theorists, and not feeling as though they can speak their minds and simultaneously having everyone else's attitudes jammed down their throat <br
But we do need reforms, and this is what we have been given to deal with <br
I take care of business AND try to help. One night a week, at a social services agency (I'm trying to remain victorious over bipolar disorder, and the side effects my treatments require.
I run up and down streets, alleys, and tunnels in bus terminals, railroad stations, and parks and terraces adjacent to some of the most expensive real estate in the world, giving out doughnuts, water, plastic sheeting, etc. I don't like talking much about it, because I believe we're commanded to play down what we do for others, and bask in any self-created piousness....there IS no piousness. After all these years, I'm frequently grossed out by some of the folks I come into contact with, and I hate the fact that I am, because we are instructed to walk in love, and I haven't hit that point yet. That's what I haven't been able to reconcile, but I pray I will, soon <br
All I can do is spend every available moment I can, educating myself, keeping an open mind, and trying to remain calm. But I cannot ignore what I'm seeing in our society, in our culture, in front of my eyes <br
I'm not a college kid on a bench in Union Square, trying to force you to wear hemp pantyhose...I'm forty-one, trying to be a better person, trying to deal with how it makes me feel to see so many people in such hardship and suffering. I am NOT harboring Osama bin Laden in my living room <br
Versatronic mentioned a while back that I seemed to have contradictory views, and perhaps that's true. But you have to look at things from both sides, and for a long time in this country, that hasn't been possible. For justice to be done, those of us with opposing views will be called upon to STRETCH, to accommodate different positions we may not feel entirely comfortable about <br
We all need to try to be patient, to walk in love, and to demand the truth <br
We can't afford to sweep what has happened to this nation under the rug

Oxydolfan1 <br
I am asking you to tell your story. Rick was courageous to tell his. Let me tell you, if this doesn't open people's eyes and minds, I don't know what will <br
I don't believe true, honest debate can cause a "riot scene". If you feel youself getting inflamed to the point of no return, follow your philosophy of being patient, walking in love, and rationally demand the truth. You may also want to "STRETCH" and accomodate different views that are out of your comfort zone. It will lend credibility to your argument.

IMHO

Bill Clinton was always a SUPERSTAR president, yes that goofy thing that went on with that woman, IMHO was way out of bounds and proportion. but to me the real kicker was always the "Whitewater" scandal or whatever it was, IIRC was reported by the new's on the very day, or there abouts, That Former President Clintons Mother passed away. It was Disrepectful..After all these years I am still p/o'd about it. alr2903

The Constitution Works

In the end, you can't hide from the American voter. If he or she senses something has gone wrong with the country or the people elected to run it, the voter will set things right. That's what happened in 1980, in 1992, again in 1994 and this past Tuesday. Voters went to the polls, thought long and hard, and made the decision to give Democrats a chance. Now the Dems will have to prove they are up to the job. Simple as that. And to give Mr. Bush credit, when he realized the situation he was in, he began to take the high road once again--at least for now; neither side's civility will last for long. Sometimes, a good slap in the face (or another part of the anatomy)is needed in American politics. November 7th, 2006 was one of those times it was delivered.

It is a moral value....

There are many gay children that go through some really terrible times that are no fault of their own. I would love to see this sort of thing stop within my lifetime. It is already hard enough as it is, making it through the teen years. Things are better than they were 30 years ago, but we have such a long way to go <br <br <br <br
And someday I'll tell the rest of my story.

Mike, Mr. Bush got a good "Thump" as I recall him saying <br
I did listen to Bush on NPR, and I do hope he was being truthful about wanting to work with the democrats. There is so much to do, and we only have a year and a half before the next election starts. Gee.... That seems WAY too soon in many ways. lol!

<i>....but Clinton DID do something wrong, he lied under oath. </i <br
Just out of curiosity how is this any different than what Bush did last week, he told us that he had no intention of firing Donald Rumsfled even though he now claims he was already looking for his replacement? I’ve heard this described as an out right lie on the news this evening. The only difference I see here is that Clinton lied about something that was absolutely no ones business except between he and his wife where as Bush lied about policy, which should be taken much more seriously than (YAY I get to use the magic word again) sex <br
And Rick I agree with you 100%, being discriminated against for being gay is horrible and it can be a life long struggle. For example, in my lifetime, I cannot remember any ballot initiatives disguised as "needing to saving something" to condone outright discrimination against anyone else except for the gay community. I'm so sorry to hear how you were forced out of your own home when you were not even an adult, yet this is a story I've heard time and time again. I am thankful that something like this did not happen to me with my parents

Retro, I don't have a CLUE as to what story you want me to tell.

Rickr, I'm sorry that's how things went down for you. I left home at sixteen at once, but more to circumvent what I knew was coming my way, and because I had affordable housing waiting...

On the Rumsfeld termination: in my circles, the word seems to be that Bush indeed had no desire and intention to dump Rummy...rather, he understood clearly that, in the event of a Senate win, he'd be met with a far less benevolent spirit then what actually greeted him, which is why quiet inquiries regarding a replacement were indeed already in the works (there is speculation that that groundwork may have already been laid by Pappy)....

My question is: will throwing Baker into this role indeed overwhelm Baker? The American people are demanding, more than any quick abandonment of the Iraq theatre, real honesty concerning what has transpired before, a previously non-existent level of transparency regarding the administration's true long-range intentions within the region, and a plan that includes a deliberate, well-defined exit strategy.

Will Baker possess the agility to negotiate this tricky course under these expectations?

With all of the well-equipped generals and other military figures with effective prior experience managing conflicts in the region, why was Baker tapped?

Will Israel, frustrated with Rumsfeld's replacement, and with a strong behind-the-scenes aversion toward Baker, launch a preemptive strike against Iran before year-end?

Rickr~ I too feel your pain..I came out at 20. My father was always for the most part emotionally unavailable. I wont go into the names he called me and the things he said. But it scarred me deeply for many years. Sometimes words/actions can hurt just as much as a fist.
Ive come to realize now at 38, he lacks many tools and he too had an emotionally unavailable father.
Is the pain still there, of course. but I have a better understanding of why he is the way he is.I now know its not about me.
I thank god every day for my Mom.. She was and continues to be my biggest fan.
With that being said,I look forward to aging..I truly believe as we go through this life we learn lessons and develop wisdom. We become better human beings.
Rickr~ is it too personal to ask if you now have a relationship with your Dad?
Thanks for sharing
